A few months ago Warner Bros said it was finally committing to a Gremlins 3. As someone who considers Gremlins 2 their very favorite movie of all time, I have to say I’m….not thrilled. The problem is that after something like Gremlins 2 — a film that not only takes the concept to its peak of potential but, at the same time, tears the very idea of sequels and franchising to shreds — what more is there? It’s impossible to continue.
WB not only announced Gremlins 3 but declared their commitment by putting the film on their schedule for November 2027. That should mean production should start taking place right about now, but since it isn’t, you can guess what’s happening. There’s been a delay, and it will push Gremlins 3 back almost an entire year. The new date is October 6, 2028, and though that’s quite a while from now, we already have a teaser of sorts.

That is of course Gizmo, but it’s probably not Howie Mandel doing the voice…we’ve heard he’s lost the ability to raise his pipes that high. As previously reported, Chris Columbus and Steven Spielberg are back, but not Joe Dante, the one who’s been singlehandedly keeping the Gremlins alive and wet since the 1984 original. He wrote the sequel, he made the HBO Max cartoon…it’s not a party without him. I don’t want a “semi-scary” take on the series like the original. We’ve had cake, we can’t go back to yogurt.
Carl Ellsworth, Zach Lipovsky, and Adam B. Stein are the script writers for Gremlins 3 and Columbus is the director. The film is pegged for October 6, 2028.
