New Mirror’s Edge Catalyst Trailer Showcases Gameplay
Electronic Arts has used Gamescon to show off a new five-minute gameplay trailer for their highly anticipated upcoming game, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst. The new video is available in the player below.
While the footage does show plenty of gameplay, such as the way that Faith can move around the city and engage in combat with enemies, the publisher notes that the trailer is made up of “pre-alpha footage from a cut-down version of a full mission in the game.” No doubt that improvements will be made by the time of the February 23, 2016 release date.
EA have previously released a small teaser trailer at E3 to build up hype for the game but this is the first time that we have been able to see actual gameplay. The publisher also revealed some information about the game, confirming that it would be sticking to the fluid movement and combat systems that the original game showcased, including the ability to fight without using any guns throughout the entire campaign.
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst will tell the origin story of protagonist Faith, expanding the character much further than the first game ever did. Speaking earlier in the summer, DICE senior producer Sara Jansson explained: “When we set out to bring Mirror’s Edge to a new generation of gamers, we knew we wanted to deliver on the potential of the first game – building an iconic heroine in Faith, bringing a beautiful, stylized world to life, and delivering fluid first person action. In Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, you will get to feel what it’s like to glide across the skyline of the city. You will get to know what it feels like to be a projectile who plows through your opponents. And you will get to experience Faith’s story.”
Mirror’s Edge Catalyst arrives on February 23 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
