New Halo 4 Launch Trailer
This week an email was sent out to all you Waypointers with a link to this new hype-inducer.
As we’re now under the 2-week mark on our count-down-until-launch, it’s impossible to watch this and not get the jitters. Both those few cuts which seem to be in-game shots and those which are presumably cutscenes look amazing. Really, there’s nothing more to be said about it.
When I first heard about the return of Master Chief, I was vibing and in a bad way. Too many franchises have been revived, too many dead characters that I loved, in games that ended up butchering those epics that their predecessors had created. I had come to terms with Master Chief’s uncertain end, and while there was an opening for continuation of the storyline, I had hoped it would never be pursued. A game that is breaking away from the Covenant and the Flood, from the essence of what the franchise was originally about, makes me worry. Yet, 343 Industries has gained an ounce of my trust. I’m going to take this tongue-in-cheek until I’ve played it through, but I can truly say I have some hope and good feelings.
Hopefully, on November 6th, in two week’s time, I’ll find that my trust was not misplaced.

Interesting. It’s not going to get me to buy it day one by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s certainly a new direction and they should be able to freshen up the by now quite stale combat.
Honestly, there hasn’t been a Halo to match the first game. Level design, enemy design and balance, story, characters, and scope were bar none the best in the series.
Even today I feel that way. Reach was an attempt at deeper meaning without the skill to enforce it and the elites, which had been quite fun to fight in the first game, were simply a chore. Yes, you’re nimble, we get it. It still doesn’t make up for the fact that your acrobatic skills make precision playstyles one of the least fun to use against you, despite the introduction of the satisfying needle and DM rifles.
Here’s hoping 343, if not recapture the fun of Halo: CE, at least forge their own unique and fun way in the universe.
