Cozy Fantasy Village Builder, Ages of Cataria Set To Launch Into Early Access

Guide the lives of your own little fantasy village in this early access game. Check out this cozy city builder, Cataria, coming to Steam!

Developed by Third Pie Studios, Cataria is a city builder about building not just a city, but a community. Everything that you do builds toward and overarching story about your town and the people within it. Families will grow, children will grow up, and elders will pass on just as life always does.

The game takes place in a pleasant and warm fantasy world. Unlike other fantasy settings, Cataria’s world focuses not on the threats that the world brings, but rather the wonders it holds. This cozy atmosphere permeates the game, done to tailor the experience into a more calm and relaxing experience.

As you build up your little town, you need to gather up various materials to facilitate the deed. Said materials are gathered by your citizens, by putting them onto tasks like cutting trees and mining rocks. Whatever the tasks, your village requires not only solid infrastructure, but a strong cast of citizens to call this village home.

While your villagers grow and live their lives, they will face many quests that will shape them as people. These quests can alter their relationships and traits, changing who they are through their experiences. What your people do in these situations are important, and won’t just affect themselves, but everyone who comes after them as well.

KEY FEATURES OF THIS COZY VILLAGE BUILDER

  • Circle of Life: Villagers in Cataria age over time, developing unique personalities and relationships with each other. They can have children, and will eventually pass away, making your village’s spirit tree grow.
  • Story Generation: Events and Quests give you the ability to directly impact the lives of your villagers. Choose wisely, as your choices may impact your villagers’ wellness, rewards, traits, or relationships.
  • Animal Collection: Adorable and unique animals pass through your village. Tame them for your villagers to keep as pets or helpers.
  • Customization: Choose from various outfits and hairstyles to give each villager a unique look. Your village can also be customized with building colors, props, and roads.

Wow.. so The way quests can change their personalities makes me feel like every playthrough could be different. I’m curious to see how much control we really have over their lives and how consequences play out across generations. I’ve played other city builders, but most of them don’t make the people inside feel alive, so this might be something new for me. The fantasy setting looks very calming too, and I like that the game focuses on wonder rather than danger.

I really enjoy the cozy theme here. Most fantasy games are full of battles and monsters, and it’s refreshing to have a game that just wants me to take care of a village and see the people live their lives. I also like the customization options, especially being able to make each villager look unique. It feels like this could become one of those games where you just spend hours watching your town grow without feeling rushed or stressed. The animal collection also seems like a nice touch.

Watching a family grow and change over time seems like it could be emotional. The “Circle of Life” mechanic seems deep but still approachable. I like the idea that relationships actually matter and affect the village as a whole. I can imagine getting attached to certain villagers and worrying about how choices affect them. The setting being cozy instead of dangerous also makes it a game you can just relax with.

Honestly, I’m most curious about the quests that change personalities. That sounds like it could add so much replay value. I also like that choices impact not just the individual, but future generations. That kind of long-term consequence is rare in games like this. I also appreciate that it isn’t focused on combat or destruction. The village feels alive and human in a way that I haven’t seen in other fantasy builders.

I feel like this game is perfect for someone who wants something relaxing but still meaningful. The focus on relationships, growth, and community makes it feel more alive than just building structures. I like the idea of choosing how villagers develop through quests, and I also like that animals are part of the village. The aesthetics look cute and calm, which is nice because it feels like you can just unwind while playing.

I love that villagers can grow up, have families, and eventually pass away. It feels like a life simulation mixed with a builder. I think watching generations unfold is going to be very satisfying. The customization also seems like a big plus because you can make each person in the village feel different. I can imagine spending a lot of time just watching daily life in the village. The fantasy setting being cozy makes it stand out from other similar games.

I’ve played many city builders, but this one seems different because it focuses on people more than buildings. Watching villagers live, grow, and change sounds like it could be both fun and emotional. I like the idea that quests and choices impact them and even their descendants. The cozy atmosphere and calm fantasy world are exactly the kind of environment I like to spend time in when I want a low-stress game. I’m looking forward to seeing how much freedom we have to shape the village.
