Iconiq Studios has been working with Crystal Dynamics to create a Tomb Raider tabletop game. The game was announced earlier this year with few details; now we know a bit more, like the game’s actual name…Tomb Raider: The Crypt Of Chronos.
That name implies heroine Lara Croft will be after something that has to do with time. And you’d be correct: The game takes place on the island of Kairos, where Lara is searching for an artifact said to “hold the reins of time.” Expect the usual amount of obstacles, enemies and traps to stand in her way, only on a board instead of a TV screen….but the interesting part is that the official description makes reference to “Natla Technologies.” Those who have been with the series since the beginning should recognize those words.
Tomb Raider: The Crypt Of Chronos is designed to support solo play, and no matter who’s playing only one character (Lara) will be controlled, but Iconiq swears that somehow works. The game will support two modes: Adventure Book Mode, a short, sweet and linear jaunt through Kairos that lasts 20 to 60 minutes, and Campaign Mode, which is more free roaming and can take as long as three hours per session. Locations and obstacles are more randomized in Campaign Mode. Both modes utilize a crafting system that gradually enhances your weapons, outfits and abilities.
It’s still going to be a while before Tomb Raider: The Crypt Of Chronos can be in your hands. The Kickstarter doesn’t launch until May of 2025, but when we get closer to that date, we’ll remind you again.
