New Deathloop Details: Bonuses And Release Date
Arkane Lyon’s Deathloop is in a weird place. It was declared a Playstation exclusive when it was first announced, but since then, Microsoft has purchased the entirety of Bethesda — the software giant that owns Arkane. This means the studio’s next big release won’t be on their parent company’s system — just the competition. Go figure.
Today Arkane revealed the release date for the game, along other details. We’ll be able to pick it up starting May 21, 2021 (assuming no delays from this point). Unfortunately Deathloop has also been confirmed as being exclusive to the next generation of systems — you will need a Playstation 5 to play it on console. And good luck finding one if you didn’t have your name on the batch that was shipped today.
It’s too bad you can’t just do what protagonist Colt does and go back in time to get a PS5. But then again, you’d have to do it over and over. Colt is double-marooned, trapped in a time loop AND on a crime-infested island of danger. To break the loop, Colt must find and assassinate the eight targets responsible for keeping him there — and all the while, he has to look out for Julianna, a rival assassin who’s hunting HIM! In single-player mode Julianna will be an AI character, but in online mode she will be controlled by a second player.
Here are the preorder bonuses you can get for reserving Deathloop. The Standard Edition will come with the “Storm Rider” Colt skin, the One Trinket in-game buff, and the exclusive-to-PS5 Royal Protector Machete. An obvious reference to Arkane’s previous hit Dishonored, yet Corvo never once used a machete.
In the Deluxe Edition ($79.99) you get all the preorder bonuses from Standard plus the “Eat The Rich Tribunal” weapon, the .44 Karat Fourpounder weapon, the Party Crasher Colt skin, the Sharp Shooter Julianna skin, the full soundtrack, two in-game buffs and another PS5 exclusive, the Transtar Trencher (another reference, this time to Prey).
Deathloop will be released on Playstation 5 and PC next May.
