National Super Smash Bros. 3DS Tournament Announced
Enjoying the recently released demo of Super Smash Bros. 3DS? North American players will soon have the chance to test their skills on a national level by competing in a Nintendo hosted tournament in select GameStops throughout the United States.
Tournaments will be held on Oct. 4 in 15 different GameStop locations in California, Illinois, Colorado, Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, New York, Texas, Florida, Washington, Georgia and the Nintendo World store in New York.
“Participants for the 64-player local tournaments on October 4 are selected on a first-come, first-served basis with no pre-registration required,” Nintendo says in a press release. “Participants may bring their own Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo 2DS systems and/or Super Smash Bros for Nintendo 3DS games to the tournaments, but are not required to do so.”
The local tournaments will start at 11 A.M. local time, and local winners will receive a 3DS XL system, a free copy of Super Smash Bros. 3DS, and a Visa gift card valued at $250. In addition, each local champion of the 64-player tournaments will be flown to New York City to play in the Super Smash Bros. National Open Tournament at the Nintendo World Store on October 11. Their matches will be live-streamed from Nintendo’s Twitch and YouTube accounts starting at 6 P.M. ET, whereupon they will face off against the other local champions from GameStop locations nationwide.
The national winner will win a Super Smash Bros. champion’s robe and a trophy worth $900.
In addition, Nintendo has announced that visitors to the Nintendo World Store will be able to purchase their own copy of the game at 8 P.M. EDT on Oct. 2, a day ahead of the rest of the nation, as part of a special fan event.
