Military Prosecutor Doberman

Military Prosecutor Doberman ~ Prosecutor or a Service Person

“Military Prosecutor Doberman” was released in 2022, has 16 episodes, is categorized as Action, Crime, Mystery, Military Drama, and Comedy; and is streaming on both Viki and Netflix

♦ It’s Do Bae-man! NOT Doberman!

In “Military Prosecutor Doberman”, there are two military prosecutors, each with their own hidden agenda. But they both seem to be on the same path, even though they answered their superior’s question differently.

The superior asked Do Bae-man if he was a prosecutor or a service person. Of course, Do Bae-man said he was a service person because he knew that was what he wanted to hear.

The superior asked Cha Woo-in if she was a prosecutor or a service person. Of course, Do Bae-man expected her to give the same answer he gave. He was surprised when she said she was a prosecutor. No matter how many times her superior asked the question, she did not change her answer.

Do Bae-man decided not to be too concerned about Cha Woo-in and whether she would perform he tasks well because he was going to be retiring soon. Whether or not she was successful as a military prosecutor was none of his concern.

MEET Military Prosecutor Do Bae-man:

Military Prosecutor Do Bae-man (sounds like “Doberman”) tried to avoid the mandatory military service requirement by not completing school. If you dropped out of school you would not be allowed in the military. His parents were career military and they both died in a tragic car accident. He was with them that day, survived, and was raised by his aunt. Because of that bad memory, he hated the military.

Even though he only completed middle school, he passed the law exam to become a lawyer. But no firm would hire him because … ?? … who would want a lawyer representing them who only finished middle school?

However, a man approached him and made him an offer he couldn’t refuse. A gentleman named Yong Moon-Goo, from a prestigious law firm, helped him enlist as a military prosecutor. He decided not to avoid the military when he realized how much money he was going to make.

He worked as a military prosecutor but received “extra compensation” (paid by the firm) for handling “certain cases”. The money was good! But he wanted to know who was behind the man who was paying him. He eventually found out and had plans to approach The Real Big Boss directly.

MEET Military Prosecutor Cha Woo-in:

Military Prosecutor Cha Woo-in is from a wealthy chaebol family and she became a military prosecutor for revenge. Because she grew up wealthy, people who have money and power don’t scare or intimidate. She had heard about Prosecutor Do Bae-man and wanted to watch and learn from him. She did not have much time as he was close to retirement when they met.

On the surface, Cha Woo-in looks petite and frail, but she is actually a skilled martial artist. She is also a skilled investigator and understands the law. Those who underestimated her always regretted it later.

♦ Do Bae-man Versus Cha Woo-in: Different Fighting Styles

The Bank President’s Son: Military Prosecutor Do Bae-man handles the case of a soldier who was the son of a bank president. Initially, it seems as if Do Bae-man framed him and had him unfairly convicted. But the young man had committed a crime when he was a civilian and used his father’s connections to enter the military to escape justice. Do Bae-man knew what he had done and made sure he ended up in prison anyway.

The Sexual Assault Case: Military Prosecutor Cha Woo-in also worked with police crime investigators to bring criminals to justice, whether in or out of the military. A young woman had been brutally beaten and sexually assaulted. She survived but it would take about 2 months for her physical recovery and who knew how long she would have to receive psychiatric treatment for the trauma. Cha Woo-in tracked down the men who assaulted her and “took care of them”. Then she set her eyes on the man who was the chief offender.

Hhhmmm? Something is Very Suspicious:

Do Bae-man began watching Cha Woo-in closely. He wasn’t sure what it was about her, but he sensed that she was not who she appeared to be. However, there was one thing he was sure about. Whereas he was pretending to be a military prosecutor, Cha Woo-in was serving as a real military prosecutor. Do Bae-man was curious to know more. Now that their paths have crossed, where will they go from there?

Main Characters:

Where to Watch

Viewership and Rating:

My personal rating is the same as the Viki viewing audience.

“Military Prosecutor Doberman” is perfect for fans of Ahn Bo-hyun like me. So far he has never played a character I did not like. He and Jo Bo-ah worked well together. Both of their characters had backstories and you wanted to go with them on their journey as they worked their way through it.

The cases they tackled were far from black and white. They exposed the underbelly of the military justice system, where power and wealth often trumped truth and justice. The sexual assault case, in particular, was gut-wrenching, highlighting the struggles victims face in seeking justice within a system that can often fail them. But the drama didn't shy away from showing how these prosecutors fought tooth and nail to ensure the perpetrators faced the consequences of their actions.

While the romance wasn't the central focus, the chemistry between Ahn Bo-hyun and Jo Bo-ah was undeniable. Their playful banter and moments of vulnerability added a touch of sweetness to the otherwise intense narrative. It was a slow burn that felt organic and believable, making their eventual connection all the more satisfying.

I couldn't help but admire Cha Woo-in's badassery. This petite woman packing a punch and taking down criminals was incredibly satisfying. Plus, her backstory and motivations added depth to her character.
