Microsoft Hololens Will Feature Xbox Live Support
With virtual reality slowly becoming a reality in its own right in regards to video games, it’s slowly becoming apparent just how far the main companies behind them are going to prove this isn’t just a gimmick or an act. At Gamescom, Microsoft held a session where they talked about their virtual reality headset, the Microsoft Hololens and how it’ll be connected in regards to its other platforms.
Chief among these announcements was that the Hololens will have Xbox Live integrated into it. As VR Focus noted on its site, Jaime Rodriguez of Microsoft stated: “The Xbox Live API is an integrated API which is available for Xbox One, Windows 10, Windows Phone and that the HoloLens is also included in this. And as any device which is part of the ‘Universal Windows Platform’ has access to the API this allows Xbox Live functionality across all supported platforms – including multiplayer gameplay.”
This truly opens up the possibilities for any developer interested in the Hololens, as it can integrate multiplayer into a VR headset in almost the same way it already does for the Xbox One. With the development kits slated to be shipped out to developers soon, this could get very interesting, very fast.
