Mega Man Timelines Continues With X And Zero

I’m really glad UDON is giving Mega Man X and Zero their own comics. I grew up playing the X series, and Chill Penguin was one of the first Mavericks I ever beat. Seeing him return in comic form is cool. I just hope the story doesn’t waste time. The X universe has deep themes about identity and morality. I want this comic to explore what X is really fighting for, like they hinted.

Also, having Ian Flynn write the Zero one-shot gives me hope. His past work on Sonic and Mega Man Archie was solid. He knows how to respect the source material while building new stories. The fact that Zero’s comic is set in a barren wasteland makes me think it could be post-Zero 3 or even closer to ZX. That sounds interesting. I hope we get more than just action – Zero’s loneliness and sacrifice deserve attention.

X and Zero were the reason I kept playing Mega Man even when my friends moved on to other games. This announcement means a lot. I like that they are giving each of them their own spotlight. Chill Penguin is an odd choice though. He’s not that dangerous, so I hope there’s a deeper reason why X is going after him. It could be a metaphor for something bigger.

For Zero, I’m guessing this comic takes place after he wakes up again, maybe in the Elf Wars era. There are so many gaps in the timeline that I want to see filled. I don’t need big plot twists — just let me see more of what life was like between the games. Comics are perfect for that.

Honestly, I think this is a great way to show younger fans why X and Zero are important. Many only know them from crossovers like Smash or gacha games. But the actual stories? They’re deep, emotional, and darker than most people expect from Mega Man. The idea of X learning “what he’s really fighting for” could tie into Sigma or even his guilt about Reploid violence. There’s a lot to unpack.

As for Zero, just saying he’s in a wasteland already tells me it’s after some catastrophe. Is this after Neo Arcadia falls? Will we see Ciel? Or maybe this is an original take. Either way, it has potential, and I want to support this so we get more comics.
