It’s about time, right? Everyone’s been wondering when the comic book character Jackpot was going to get her own movie. Well, that time may finally arrive, if Sony Pictures likes the script that comic book writer Marc Guggenheim is currently crafting for them.
Yeah…we know. You have no idea who this is. Here’s what’s actually going on: Sony is currently raiding the Marvel IP catalog for every single character in the Spider-Man universe, and drafting up movie treatments for each of them. No matter how insignificant, or how few issues the character’s been in, you can generally assume Sony’s considering their own movie right now.
Jackpot is the super-moniker of Sara Ehret, a young mother who gained superpowers from her own gene therapy research. She actually got the injection WHILE pregnant, and fortunately her kid suffered no ill side effects. While a lot of Marvel heroes are single crimefighters, Sara has a family to look after, and there haven’t been many superhero movies with that scenario.
So why the name Jackpot? Does she have luck powers, like Domino? Not really…Sara’s gifts amount to superstrength and that’s it. Spidey could basically do what she does and more. When she was first introduced, the writers named her Jackpot to make readers speculate that she could be Mary Jane as a superhero (but nope, nothing that cool….we’d have to wait for Renew Your Vows to see that in any universe).
Like we said, Sony is merely exploring its options right now. It isn’t likely that every single announced project relating to Spider-Man’s cinematic world is going to make it. Jackpot is going to actually NEED luck powers to be mentioned beyond this one newspost.
