Mandao Returns Debuts On Amazon Prime

Mandao has come back, if you were aware he was gone. Indie Rights announced today writer/director Scott Dunn has returned to the world he introduced with 2019’s Mandao of the Dead. The sequel is called, appropriately enough, Mandao Returns. Both movies are classified as sci-fi horror comedies.

Who’s Mandao? He’s an astral projecting time traveler who doesn’t really take his job seriously and more often than not uses his powers to just slack off and mess around. He spends his time mostly with his adult nephew Jackson, scheming cousin Andy and cabbie friend Fer. It’s Christmastime, at least in the time period Mandao is currently in, and he’s attempting to contact the ghost of his father to have a chat. But he bungles it up and brings back the spirit of B-movie star Aura Garcia instead. Aura would rather be alive than dead, and when she finds out what Mandao can do, she enlists him to go back in time and prevent her death. The resulting temporal changes cause a lot more problems…

Starring in Mandao Returns are Jenny Lorenzo (“Victor and Valentino”, “Gentefied”), Jim O’Doherty (“Third Rock from the Sun”, “Grounded for Life”), Sean Liang (“American Horror Story: 1984”), Sean McBride, Alexandre Chen, Dunn himself and Gina Gomez Dunn. Mandao Returns finished shooting just days before the COVID shutdown.

Mandao Returns is now available on Amazon Prime Video. It will be arriving on other digital platforms soon, and Dunn has more sequels planned in the future. Check out the clip below for a sneak peek…
