Wrong turn reboot!
The Millenials will feel old right now because a movie from 2003 is getting a reboot and reimagining.
In 2003 Wrong turn franchise started. It is not a box office success but it is such a cult classic that it got seven sequels. It has a loyal fan following as home video movie franchise. This was going to have a theatrical release but the Covid 19 Pandemic happened. It is the 8th film in the series but its a remake and reboot of the first one. The first film is about stranded college kids in a remote village. Little do they know it is a hunting ground for inbred cannibals. The original was a modern take on the legend of Sawney Bean. It got a lot of comparison from “The Hills have eyes” franchise.
What I love about this movie series is the use of Practical effects over CGI which is very problematic in many horror films because it doesn’t age well.
This reboot is written by Alan B. McElroy who also created the original. It is not a direct remake because the main characters gets to encounter normal people who are not hostile against them. This time the cannibals wear masks so it will be hard to tell if they are inbred hillbillies just like the original. The characters of this film have different names from the original so it is more of a reboot than a remake. It is a new continuity instead of a continuation of the original.
Here is the trailer of the original, just in case you want to make a comparison.
The original have a more star studded cast because they casted mainstream actors like Eliza Dushku and Emmanuelle Chriqui.
If you want a summary of the whole series, here is a video that explains the whole franchise as a whole.
