Mainframe Comic-Con Begins This Weekend
Miss conventions, especially the allegedly comic-related ones? You’re not alone. Sadly, it doesn’t look like any will actually happen in 2020, unless there’s a way to prevent a gazillion people mushed into one large room from spreading germs (and there never will be). One organization in Chicago has an idea on how to bring comic-cons to YOU….presenting Mainframe Comic-Con, a gathering of geeky interests you can attend from home.
On Saturday, special panels include Clark “Agent Coulson” Gregg, Seth Green, Claudia Wells (the original Jennifer Parker), comics writer Tim Seeley, Ninja Turtle co-creator Kevin Eastman, Natalie Dreyfuss of The Flash, and the controversial comics grading company CGC (keep it civil in there). Live comic book auctions will be held at 6 PM Eastern / 3 PM Pacific.
Day 2 on Sunday kicks things off bright and early with a Kevin Smith panel, followed by Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman, Kane Hodder (Jason Voorhees), David Harbour, the Robot Chicken crew (yes, Seth Green shows up on both days), the crew at Archie Comics (we don’t know who is in this panel yet), comics writers J.M. DeMateis and Ron Marz, and more. Plus more comics auctions!
Mainframe even has an Artist’s Alley. We would suggest you spend some time here, and at least SOME money here, as the loss of regular conventions is going to hit the independent artist community hard. You can find a lot of talent at the Artist’s Alley, unsung and otherwise. Some of them are destined to be tomorrow’s big comics artists.
Mainframe Comic-Con will last just this weekend….from today, April 25, to tomorrow, April 26. All proceeds benefit the Hero Initiative, helping comic creators in need…which is most of them, right now. Grab some bad junk food, buy an autograph and attend a panel or two!
