What will the future of corporate cruelty and worker drudgery look like? We can only speculate, but a new cartoon coming to HBO Max (it’s still called HBO Max for the next few weeks) provides one potential vision. FIRED ON MARS stars Luke Wilson as the voice of Jeff Cooper, promising graphic designer.

Jeff was about to take his career to the next level…literally to another planet. He’d been hired as the lead designer for the start-up Mars.ly, which set its headquarters on the Red Planet. Jeff makes the move and gets all his stuff unpacked, only to find out his position was quietly eliminated during the trip. Now he’s worse than unemployed….he’s unemployed on Mars.

Jeff can’t return to Earth because it cost everything just to get here. “Adrift in the sprawling office colony, Jeff is forced to reinvent himself as he attempts to find meaning in a dangerous, alien, yet all-too-familiar corporate landscape,” HBO Max says.

FIRED ON MARS was created and executive produced by Nate Sherman and Nick Vokey with executive producers Carson Mell (“Silicon Valley,” “Eastbound and Down,” “Tarantula”) and Brian A. Miller. Wilson serves as co-executive producer alongside supervising producer Jackie Buscarino.

All eight episodes of FIRED ON MARS will premiere on HBO Max this coming Thursday, April 20.

I can't even imagine the commute to work on Mars. Talk about a long-distance relationship with your job.I hope they at least have decent Wi-Fi on Mars, so Jeff can keep up with his job search.I wonder if Jeff has any space skills on his resume. Maybe he can work for NASA instead.It's a good thing Jeff's not claustrophobic. I don't think there's much room to move around on those Martian colonies.

Love the visuals; the corporate dystopia aesthetic of the late 1990s and early 2000s transplanted to Mars is hilarious and, sadly, perhaps not too fantastical. Hope the rebellion-style plot is handled well; it could go horribly wrong. This reminded me of a Carol and Tuesday prequel.

The new guys at Max appear to despise all of the ground-level guys' brilliant ideas, and they are determined to ensure that anything still planned for release—despite the overhaul—dies a quick, quiet death the moment that starter pistol fires. Why not give it a shot and promote this show instead of hoping it falls through the cracks? It looks fantastic and was obviously an excellent choice for the platform. No one, in particular, wants more reality TV from a streamer. Diverse content, including well-written adult animation, is where it's at.

The world-building in this trailer intrigues me because, despite being an animated comedy program, which is frequently fantastical. Mars has been colonized, there are robots and cyborgs, but given recent advances in science and technology, that is actually kind of plausible, and they aren't relying on extraterrestrials or psychic powers or traveling at the speed of light.

Exploring the possibilities of our future through humor is absolutely thrilling! It's amazing to see technology and colonization on Mars being presented in a realistic yet hilarious way through animated comedy. It's a refreshing take on science fiction that adds an unusual and exciting twist to the genre.
