New details about the PS5 Pro have leaked out, and no, this isn’t the first time. Sony still hasn’t confirmed the impending existence of the console but it’s considered a given at this point.
For the first time we have an image to go along with the specs. As you can see….not much is different. The PS5 Pro still has the same Seto Kaiba shape as the original, with the addition of groovy stripes on the sides. The Pro is also said to be a bit thicker to allow for the advanced tech…which to be honest doesn’t sound super-advanced.
The specs were part of a separate leak months ago: the Pro will have a 10% faster CPU and a slightly improved GPU that would allow for faster rendering and higher quality ray tracing. These marginal improvements are in line with the PS4 Pro and similar midlife upgrade models in the console wars. You won’t NEED it, but it’s a nice thing to have.
Most controversial is the fact that the PS5 shell sketch doesn’t seem to show a visible disc drive. Fans are already shouting their disapproval if the drive turns out to be truly absent. Previous reports have suggested a “detachable” disc drive would be part of the shell, but if it’s there, it’s hiding pretty well. Of course we can only see one side. Maybe you insert discs from the side of it now?
The PS5 Pro is still rumored to be launching in November, but if that’s the case, Sony better hurry up and start marketing it. An official announcement is expected sometime next month.
