Life extension: How close are we to living longer than 122?
Life extension is a technology desired by many people because a lot of us are afraid to die. The oldest person documented to live is Jeanne Calment, She died at the age 122. There is also Francisca Lozano who claimed to be 124 before she died but she lost her birth certificate during World War II.
Fighting aging has been a long fantasy of humanity. I know fictional films like Age of Adelaide portrayed a long life as something miserable because your loved ones will pass away but it could be a different story if you are not alone. Scientists are still figuring out how to extend not only our lifespan but also our health span. No one wanted to live for 150 years if you will be a bedridden vegetable.
Life Extension and Age reversal fantasy was fulfilled on this old public domain animated short film.
An Elderly couple becomes young again because of technology. Are we close to achieving that?
During Victorian England, The lifespan average of people is 45 to 50 years old. Now the world average is 77.3 years but in countries like Japan and Sweden is over 80.
There are now technologies with the potential to extend our lifespan. These are more realistic and attainable but you got to save money to afford them in the future.
We now have diets that are proven to slow down aging. If you will look at the 50-year-old celebrities of today to the ones from the 1950s you can see their nutritionists, fitness trainers and cosmetic industry had made a lot of difference.
Organ failure is the most common cause of death but it could become a thing of the past. My PC is already 12 years old. Fortunately, it is still working well because whenever a part got broken or obsolete, I replace them.
Like computer parts human organs age and we know organ transplant is a way to save the lives of people with diseased organs. There is a high demand for organs but there is a shortage of them so many people died waiting for a donor.
2 weeks ago, The first Heart Xenotransplant had been successfully performed and the man with pig heart is still alive.
If this technology further develops, Organ failure might become a thing of the past.
Another problem why our lives are short is aging. Well, a doctor in Israel had discovered that a Hyperbaric chamber, a machine used to treat Scuba divers, reverses the aging of its users.
As we age the length of our telomerase gets shorter, It was discovered that people who use this treatment develop longer telomerase. In decades could be seeing athletes still active in their 50s. The reversal of aging and prevention of organ failure could become a norm but sadly only to the people who can afford it. Life extension could be attainable if we will save for the future because these procedures look expensive.

If there is a technology where my Age is 88, but my appearance and stamina is for an 18-year-old, sign me up! I am not a Vegan, so I am willing to sacrifice the life of a pig if it means I will live longer. Call me selfish if you want, but I want to live longer than possible! There are so many things that I want to do with my life. I want to travel the world, finish three college courses and learn languages. I want to be a spectator of history and tell future generations how it happened. Last but not least, I want to stay hot forever! People who say beauty is skin deep are fooling themselves.

Elon Musk is working on a Technology to make Digital Immortality Possible. If I can upload my consciousness in a Cloud, I will be willing to sell my body for science.
