“Legally Blonde” is one of Reese Witherspoon’s most iconic films. It serves as an inspiration to every college student, emphasizing that no one is unintelligent if they apply themselves diligently. In the first film, Elle Woods reigns as the queen bee of her sorority, enjoying immense popularity. Excelling in fashion, she hails from a family of celebrities, and her boyfriend comes from a political dynasty. However, when her boyfriend dumps her for being too blonde and seeks a more sophisticated partner to support his political ambitions, Elle decides to pursue him to Harvard. Her goal is to prove to him that she possesses the qualities he seeks. Despite being initially underestimated due to her appearance, Elle discovers her true intelligence through hard work and determination. Rather than chasing after someone who rejects her, she realizes her self-worth and pursues a genuine interest in law at Harvard. Notably, the film subverts stereotypes by depicting the cheerleader as the victim of bullying by the nerds.
As for the box office earnings of “Legally Blonde,” the film was released in 2001 and was a commercial success.
It grossed over $141 million worldwide, solidifying its status as a beloved classic and spawning a successful franchise with sequels, a stage musical adaptation, and a television series. There is also a sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde that made $125.9 million in the box office. This film franchise had spawned different spin offs.
There was successful was a successful back in 2007 and MTV even made a reality tv on casting it’s lead star.
Some of the Spin off though are failures like this Straight to DVD movie about Elle Wood’s British Twin Cousins who wants to follow her footsteps. Critics destroyed this movie.
Back in mid 2003 there was a Tv remake Pilot starring Jennifer Hall was made but no TV network picked it up. You can watch this failed Pilot here:
A Legally Blonde 3 is in development where Reese Witherspoon reprises the role. Not much is heard about it. Now Amazon and Reese Witherspoon are working with the people behind Gossip Girl. There are no details yet if this is a remake or spin off. Is Reese going reprise her Iconic role or are we going to focus on a different character on the same universe? Base from what happened to the failed Pilot, No one wants to see another actress play Elle Woods on screen.
