This October will bring the end of Star Wars Rebels, and with it comes many loose ends being tied up, and storylines that’ll lead into Rogue One. During the most recent trailer, a very particular name got dropped, Director Orson Krennic, who was the true mastermind behind the Death Star. This was dropped by Tarkin in a conversation with Grand Admiral Thrawn, the former of whom noted that Krennic’s plan for “Stardust” seemed more reliable than Thrawn’s new fighter.
Many wondered since that name drop whether Krennic would be in Season 04 as a super definitive tie-in to Rogue One. Sadly, Executive Producer Dave Filoni noted that this just couldn’t happen:
“Name-dropping,” Filoni said to Entertainment Weekly. “It’s always fun to make it feel like it’s part of this big world… But the cape alone would be half my budget, just to make it flow.”
However, that doesn’t mean Filoni didn’t imagine having every single major (living) villain be together for a scene in the final season.
“I was imagining a shot with Vader and Krennic and the Emperor,” he said, “but it’s like having a cape convention with those guys. Then you have Tarkin and Thrawn, and it starts too [sic] look like a Legion of Bad Guys. When you get too many bizarre Star Wars villains together, I don’t know if it works for me.”
Star Wars Rebels Season 4 arrives on October 16th on Disney XD.
