Joss Whedon Wants To Do Star Wars Spinoff

One of the beauties of the new Star Wars movie universe is the spinoff films. Tales from the Star Wars universe that don’t exactly fit in the new trilogy can now be made into films. Rogue One is going to be the first spinoff, with a Han Solo spinoff set to come out two years later. With the renewed hype in Star Wars, its no surprise that people are wanting to get in on the action and tell their own Star Wars story. This includes legendary director Joss Whedon, who has revealed he would like to helm his own Star Wars story.

“I mean, it’s a fun thing to do, to put yourself in the service of something if you think you can add an interpretation,” Whedon said to Complex. “It’s no different than any other storytelling […] Do I want to make a Star Wars movie? Yeah.”

He went on to note though that at first, he wasn’t up for it, but a certain trailer changed his mind. He added, “I was like, ‘I don’t want to make a Star Wars movie. Like, god dammit, why?’ But I saw the trailer for Rogue [One: A Star Wars Story] awhile ago and I was like, ‘I want to do that.’ To make a Star Wars movie and not be wed to the bigger picture.”

No doubt Whedon is referring to his time with Marvel and the Avengers property, where he had very strict guidelines he was forced to follow. A spinoff would no doubt give him much more freedom.
