John Cena and J.K. Simmons are set to reprise their roles as Peacemaker and Omni-Man in Mortal Kombat 1. Just a month ago, Peacemaker, Omni-Man, and Homelander were announced as guest DLC characters for Mortal Kombat 1, joining returning favorites like Quan Chi, Ermac, and Takeda. In Mortal Kombat 11, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger lent their likenesses during their prime to portray the Terminator and Rambo. While these DLCs were well-received and popular in tournaments, they were not voiced by the actors who provided their likenesses.

This time, however, J.K. Simmons, known for his role as Omni-Man in Invincible, will be lending his voice to his iconic supervillain character from the controversial Amazon Prime animated series. John Cena, originally playing Homelander in the Suicide Squad film, gained immense popularity and even secured his own TV series, which has been renewed for a second season. This unexpected success has led some to view Cena’s DC comic run as surpassing Dwayne Johnson‘s portrayal of Black Adam.
John Cena isn’t the first WWE Superstar to voice a Mortal Kombat character. In Mortal Kombat 11, Ronda Rousey lent her voice to Sonya Blade, without providing her likeness. It seems Ronda didn’t want to associate herself with the character’s potentially brutal demise, unlike John Cena who appears unfazed.
Fans are now eagerly hoping that Anthony Starr, the actor behind Homelander in The Boys, will also reprise his role in the game. While Starr provided his likeness, it’s still uncertain if he’ll be voicing Homelander. Negotiations with NetherRealm Studios might be ongoing, and enthusiasts are optimistic about a positive outcome. If not, they’re hopeful that a suitable voice actor can do justice to Homelander’s character.
Another celebrity joining the lineup is Jean-Claude Van Damme, who was actually Ed Boon’s original choice to play Johnny Cage during the 2D digitized sprites era in the 90s. However, budget constraints prevented this back then. Decades later, Van Damme has agreed to become Johnny Cage, with a DLC skin resembling him and featuring his voice. For those not fond of Van Damme, a default Johnny Cage option will still be available.
