Jai Courtney Reveals How He Got Into Suicide Squad and Jared Leto’s Method for Joker
Suicide Squad has been a hot topic ever since filming began. First came the official pic of the cast in costume (most of them anyway), then came the numerous pics and videos taken from the set, and rumors and story details galore. For the cast, this was actually something they expected, at least according to Jai Courtney, who’s playing Boomerang in Suicide Squad. They were warned this would happen, which was apparently why they released the group photo first, so there wouldn’t be a “is that really how they look?” kind of thing. He also went on to tell MTV News about how he got into the film. Apparently, he didn’t want to be in any superhero movies, but after chatting with Shia LaBeouf (who had worked with David Ayer on Fury), he gave director David Ayer a shot. After a single phone call, he was apparently hooked.
Oh, and as for Jared Leto’s Joker, has Leto gone crazy trying to do it? Courtney stated, “Sort of. I don’t know how you measure that these days. I haven’t seen him, since we started working, out-of-character, let’s put it that way.”
In the meantime, Courtney’s schedule will continue to be pretty brutal as he films the movie. “We’ve been doing nights for the best part of a couple months. It’s been wild, dude. [We’ve got] ‘til the end of August, so we’ve got a while.”
Suicide Squad is due out in theaters on August 6. A video of the interview with Courtney is available in the player below.
