Hyrule Warriors Legends Began Development Due to Positive Feeback From Wii U Version
Ports are nothing new when it comes to video games. Sometimes a game starts out on one console, then moves to another after a period of time for one reason or another. During E3 (and leaked previously), Nintendo revealed that the Wii U title Hyrule Warriors, which mixed characters from the Legend of Zelda franchise with the gameplay mechanics of Dynasty Warriors, would be coming to the 3DS with new characters, a new story, and more in the form of Hyrule Warriors Legends. But what caused this port to happen? Apparently, it was fans liking the Wii U version and wanting to play it on the 3DS. At least, that’s according to producer Yosuke Hayashi, who spoke to Famitsu (which was reported by Nintendo Everything) about it:
“That was after the release of the Wii U version. The Wii U version got a positive reception from people who played it, but as there are already many Zelda titles on the Nintendo 3DS, many Zelda fans said “I’d like to play this on 3DS”. The development of the Nintendo 3DS version took off from there.”
The reveal trailer showed that Tetra and King of Hyrule from Wind Waker would be joining the game. Along with that, a new story will accompany them, serving as a kind of epilogue to the Wii U version. But don’t think that’s the only new characters coming…
“I can’t go into details yet, but we plan to add new character(s) [can mean one or several] other than Tetra and King of Hyrule. There are fan favorites and surprising characters in the game, so I’d be happy if you kept guessing who will join the fight while waiting for follow-up information.”
Hayashi also noted that the game is “60 percent done”, so we could potentially be getting a release date soon for it.
