Hit And Run Squad – The Police Commissioner is Corrupt

“Hit-and-Run Squad” is a 2019 Action-Crime Korean movie.

SUMMARY: The female detective was assigned to a special operation that failed but she wasn’t fired. Intead her superiors transferred her to the Hit-and-Run Squad.

You Didn’t Get the Evidence? Try Again!

In “Hit-and-Run Squad”, Eun Shi-Yeon was a police lieutenant assigned to a special operation. The mission was to prove that the police commissioner was corrupt. They got so close! But in the end they failed. That meant that the police commissioner was still their boss. She was lucky she didn’t get fired. Her immediate supervisor pulled some strings in HR, she was demoted and transferred to the Hit-and-Run Squad. Eun Shi-Yeon felt bummed out until her supervisor told her that the evidence they needed to prove the police commissioner’s corruption could be found in that unit of the police department. Eun Shi-Yeon suddenly became very interested in her new job. She will be working along with Police Constable Seo Min-Jae. It turns out both of them are after the same guy, Jung Jae-Cheol.

  • Seo Min-Jae was investigating a hit-and-run accident and he was sure Jung Jae-Cheol was the culprit.
  • Eun Shi-Yeon was investigating Jung Jae-Cheol because he was the one bribing the police commissioner.

But Jung Jae-Cheol is a wealthy race car driver. He is the first Formula One racer in South Korea and now he owns the race track: cars and all. Jung Jae-Cheol has more than enough money to pay others to cover up his crimes and enough smart lawyers to get any charges against him dropped.

No matter. Seo Min-Jae and Eun Shi-Yeon are both determined to bring him in. But they really need to be careful. Jung Jae-Cheol is a nasty piece-of-work!

Viewership and Rating:

My personal rating is NOT the same as the Viki viewers. I’m OK with MDL’s rating.

I know that I usually agree with the Viki viewing audience. But not this time. It was an action movie but it didn’t fill me with thrills and chills. There were lots of reviews. People probably watched the movie for the same reason I watched it. I chose this movie because of the female lead and the bad guy male lead.

  • South Korean actress Kong Hyo-Jin made her comeback in the 2025 K-drama series “When the Stars Gossip”. She is not an actress I follow so I didn’t know she needed to come back. It made me curious about some of the K-dramas she had done. WOW! She’s been acting since 1999.
  • South Korean actor Cho Jung-Seok did a good job of playing a “stuttering psycho prick”. But he always does a good job.  But he said his role in “Pilot” took a toll on him because he played both a man and a woman and it strained his voice.

I literally just watched this movie last night, so this review is fresh in my mind. It was... fine. I didn’t hate it, but I also didn’t love it. Some parts were really engaging, especially the scenes with Jung Jae-Cheol being an absolute scumbag. Cho Jung-Seok nailed that role.

But as a whole, the movie felt like it was trying to be something bigger than it was. The corruption plot was interesting, but the pacing made it lose impact. The ending also felt a little rushed.

I love crime stories, but this one didn’t fully hook me. The premise had all the right elementsβ€”a determined cop, a corrupt official, and a rich criminal who thinks he’s above the law. But something about the storytelling just didn’t click.

I think the problem was the stakes. Yes, we know the police commissioner is corrupt, and yes, Jung Jae-Cheol is a dangerous guy, but I never really felt the tension. The story moved forward, but it lacked that sense of urgency that makes crime thrillers exciting.

That being said, I did enjoy the interactions between the main characters. Seo Min-Jae and Eun Shi-Yeon made a good team, and their different approaches to the case kept things interesting. The acting was solid across the board, but the script could have been sharper.

I decided to check this out because of Kong Hyo-Jin. It wasn’t what I expected! The story was interesting, but I felt like it was missing the emotional depth I usually enjoy in dramas. The action scenes were decent, but I didn’t feel that strong connection to the characters.

That said, it was cool to see Kong Hyo-Jin in a different kind of role. She played a tough, determined cop really well. If you’re a fan of her, it’s worth watching at least once. Otherwise, I think there are better crime thrillers out there.

I actually really enjoyed this movie! Sure, it wasn’t perfect, but I think people are being too harsh on it. The premise was unique, and the idea of a hit-and-run squad being involved in a corruption case was pretty clever. I also really liked the chemistry between Eun Shi-Yeon and Seo Min-Jae. They had a fun dynamic that kept things engaging.

Cho Jung-Seok was a standout for me. He made Jung Jae-Cheol such a despicable character, and I found myself genuinely rooting for his downfall. I also liked how the film showed how much power and influence he hadβ€”it made the stakes feel real.

Would I watch it again? Maybe not right away, but I don’t regret watching it. I’d say it’s a solid 7/10 for me.

The story had so much potentialβ€”corrupt officials, a reckless race car driver, and determined cops trying to take him down. But instead of an intense, gripping thriller, we got a film that felt like it was playing it safe.

The pacing was weird. The first half built things up well, but then it lost steam. I also didn’t find Eun Shi-Yeon that compelling as a lead. She had a solid backstory, but the script didn’t give her enough moments to shine. And Seo Min-Jae? He was just there.

The worst part? The ending. I won’t spoil it, but it felt so... convenient. Like, after everything, that’s how they decided to wrap things up? Not satisfying at all.

I only watched it because of her too! Glad it was a movie and not a series.
