Disney's Hey AJ theme song

Hey AJ Theme Song Released Before Premiere

Walt Disney will start the new year right with a new animated series for their Disney Jr channel. The whimsical musical Hey AJ promises to elevate the ordinary to the extraordinary, starting with the Hey AJ Theme Song, which they recently released.

They also released a few music videos and a trailer for the series. Please keep reading to learn more about them and the series’ premiere date.

Walt Disney Released the Hey AJ Theme Song for Disney Jr

As we say goodbye to 2025, Hollywood is already dropping their plans for 2026 on us. For instance, Walt Disney recently announced plans to release a new animated comedy on its Disney Jr. network, Hey AJ, based on books by former Super Bowl champion Martellus Bennett.

The series will follow AJ, an imaginative young girl who goes on big adventures with her stuffed bunny sidekick, Theo. Along the way, they will make “ordinary moments extraordinary” through their powerful and whimsical imaginations. For instance, AJ can turn a long, boring car ride to an amusement park into a superhero space adventure to save the world.

Disney promises that the show will bring a lot of heart, imagination, and fun for the whole family. They’re so adamant about this that they have already released the Hey AJ theme song”.

Walt Disney Records released the song as a single on December 20.2025. The track features performances by the Hey AJ cast, with lyrics and music by Kayla Morrison, Ghian Wright, Michael Hodges, Jeff Marsh, and Gerald Trottman.

A Quick Review of the Hey AJ Theme Song

In their infinite wisdom, Walt Disney released two versions of the Hey AJ theme song.

The album version features one of the longest buildups I have ever heard. Half of the minute-long track is just AJ introducing her family. While there’s music, she’s just talking. Sure, AJ’s family breaks up the speech by responding to her, but you must wait a whole 25 seconds before you get to the actual song.

The show version forgoes this speech and replaces it with an additional verse. This verse greatly improves the song. It’s a bit cheesy, but it’s for a children’s cartoon.

The chorus is the same in both versions. It’s just a simple repeated lyric, but it works for its genre. It’s definitely meant for kids, and it revels in that fact. Parents should be ready for when their kids start repeating it all day.

For your convenience, I have included the show’s opening credits, which serve as the song’s music video.

Disney Also Released Several Music Videos for Hey AJ

While the Hey AJ theme song is a nice treat, it’s not the only sneak peek Disney released for the series. Over the past few months, they have released several clips and music videos for some of the show’s songs, such as “Lend a Helping Hand”.

“Lend a Helping Hand” follows AJ and her friends as they help out with various tasks. The song is a fun romp that teaches kids a lesson. There is nothing much else to say about it. The video shows AJ and her friend wearing superhero costumes, revealing their vivid imaginations.

Personally, it’s a better song than the opener, but that’s just personal preference. Either way, you can watch the video below.

Other released songs include:

  • “Step to It.”
  • “Drift Off.”
  • “Turn It Up.”
  • “BFF Love.”
  • “More Fun to Have Fun.”
  • “The Scary Vibes.”
  • “Shadow Dancing.”
  • “Check It Out.”

What is Disney’s Hey AJ?

Initially announced in April 2022, Walt Disney’s Hey AJ draws inspiration from Martellus Bennett’s friends and family. It stars an all-star cast featuring:

  • Amari McCoy as A.J.
  • Martellus Bennett as Marty, A.J.’s father
  • Jhené Aiko as Siggi, A.J.’s mother
  • Juliet Donenfeld as Jessie, A.J.’s best friend
  • Innocent Ekakitie as Jazz
  • David Mitchell as Theo, A.J.’s stuffed bunny
  • Meghan Trainor as Jessie’s mother.

Bennett will also serve as the director and producer for the series, along with Emmy Award winner Jeff “Swampy” Marsh and Grammy-nominated songwriter Michael Hodges. For reference, Marsh’s previous work includes Phineas and Ferb, while Hodges worked on The Garfield Movie.

The crew used bright, colorful 2D animation, quick, relatable humor, and energetic, playful, and imaginative music to develop and maintain Hey AJ’s whimsical family fun.

Confirmed Guest Star Appearances

In addition to the regular cast, Walt Disney has already announced several guest actors who will appear in Hey AJ. However, they didn’t reveal which episodes would have them.

  • Cristo Fernández – from Phineas And Ferb
  • Bass guitarist and singer Bootsy Collins
  • Kate Miccuci – from DuckTales
  • Maulik Pancholy – from Phineas And Ferb
  • UK singer Calum Scott
  • Lena Waithe – from HBO’s Westworld
  • Retired NASA astronaut and engineer Leland Melvin

The Hey AJ Trailer

Along with music videos, Disney released a trailer for Hey AJ. The trailer features the theme song playing in the background as the characters introduce themselves and the show’s central premise, AJ’s strange imagination.

Overall, Hey AJ looks wholesome, and kids should find it entertaining and informative. While definitely for a younger audience, the show may be something for older Disney fans as well. The show is a celebration of childhood imagination, and that’s something we all need from time to time.

Where and When Can You Watch Disney’s Hey AJ

Walt Disney will premiere Hey AJ on January 13, 2026, on the Disney Jr network from 7 to 10:15 a.m. EST/PST. The premiere will include a marathon run of the first seven episodes of the series. This marathon will encore the following day, January 14, on the Disney Channel, Disney+, and on Disney Jr on Demand. The rest of the series will debut later in the year.

Until then, you can listen to the songs. You will find the Hey AJ Theme Song on all major digital music apps and stores. However, the rest are only available as video clips.

Final Thoughts

Children’s shows have a charm of their own. They might be for everyone, but they do have an audience.

If you have a child or will otherwise watch Hey AJ, post your plans in the comments.

Hey AJ looks cute, honestly. I like shows that make kids’ imaginations feel big, and this seems to do that. The theme song is catchy, and I can imagine kids repeating the chorus all day like the article said. The album version felt a bit slow with all the talking at the start, but I get why they did it—introduces her family and personality. The show version is shorter and more fun. I also like that there are other songs like “Step to It” and “BFF Love,” they look playful. I think Disney Jr made a smart move releasing music videos early because it builds interest before the show even premieres. I’m planning to watch at least the premiere, maybe with my little cousin. It’s nice to see a show that’s designed to be entertaining while still giving a bit of learning.

I’m really happy to see Hey AJ feature a natural African American representation. AJ and her family feel genuine and relatable, not like they were added just to check a box. It’s refreshing to see a children’s cartoon where the culture and personality of the characters feel authentic, and it comes through in how they speak, interact, and just live their everyday adventures. It doesn’t feel forced or exaggerated, which is rare in kids’ shows. Having a strong, imaginative African American girl as the lead is inspiring, and I think it will mean a lot to kids who don’t usually see themselves reflected so naturally on screen. Even small details, like the family interactions and the way AJ imagines her adventures, feel real and warm. It makes the show feel wholesome and inclusive without ever trying too hard, and I’m really glad Disney took that approach.

AJ and Theo have a strong friendship, and I think that will be a good example for young viewers. The theme song is fun, and the chorus is easy to sing along with. I’m also excited about the variety of songs Disney released—they show that the show will have different moods and lessons. The animation style is bright and energetic, and it matches the musical elements well. It seems like a show that kids can watch over and over without losing interest. I’ll probably watch the premiere, and I’m curious if the series can appeal to older kids too. Overall, it looks like a cheerful and educational show.

I am curious about the guest stars. Having people from other Disney shows, singers, and even a NASA astronaut makes the series feel more interesting. It shows that the creators put thought into making the show varied and special. I watched the trailer, and AJ’s imagination is really highlighted—it’s fun to see what ordinary moments turn into on screen. The theme song is catchy, and the show version is definitely better than the album version with the long intro. I also like that the music videos introduce different songs with positive messages. I think the show could be fun for kids and even adults who enjoy colorful animation and light-hearted stories. I’m looking forward to the premiere and seeing how all these elements come together.
