HBO Max will have a cheaper subscription option but…
Warner Media’s HBO Max is one of the fastest growing streaming Service. The success of Wonder Woman 1984 is a testament to that. People are also excited with the HBO Max movie line up because those are movies that deserves to be to shown in Theaters.
HBO Max have one ambition and that is to have 120-150 million subscribers by 2025. HBO max chargers $14.99 per month with 7 day free trial to its subscribers. It is much more expensive than Disney Plus but subscription includes theatrical release films like Wonder Woman 1984. No more additional rental fee!
Some people are not able to afford such fee so to get more subscribers. They are working for a lower tier option for people who cant afford to current price. No Numbers are given yet but there will be a tier that is cheaper than the current one but with a twist. To compensate for more income the cheaper subscriptions will have ads, just like Network television. There is no price yet but this could be good for people with lower budget and finances.
Let’s compare it to competitors, Disney plus charges $6.99/month but newly released theatrical films will have rental fees just like what happened to Mulan. Netflix have two available tiers for subscribers. The basic which charges $8.99 and the premium which costs $17.99 but it will be available for 4 screens and that includes phones and tablets of family members. Amazon Prime costs $12.99 per month and that is cheaper than HBO Max.
I am curious how reasonable the price of the HBO Max subscription with ads but I hope it won’t be free television level of ads. I hope it will be more like Youtube where a video can have one to two ads. The Next step Warner Media should work for is to make the platform global because some countries resorts to piracy to consume their content.
