Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger EP 12 - "Kick Some Butt! The King and I!"

My brief thoughts on episode 12:

- I was beginning to wonder what had happened to Ian's playboy nature.

- Man, the others dont even bother reacting to nossan's jokes anymore

- Noriaki Sugiyama is voicing the MOTW. Nice!

-King's Rock-Busting Punch looks more like an epic bitch slap.

- Sakamoto delivers again with a shot of Amy crossing her legs an awesome action-packed episode.

I kinda like Utchy. Normally comedic sixths just get on my nerves but he hasn't yet. Maybe it's just because he reminds me of ShinkenBlue?
Some early quick-viewing notes
1. Yeah, that classroom scene so did not look like a standard scene from an AV. Not at all.
Yeah that's what is known here in England as "a bit of blue for the dads". Still, I'm sure the fellas who worked themselves into a frenzy over last week's Garo episode containing a girl in her pajamas will be foaming at the mouth after that little cut-away gag.
2. I dunno if it's really hard to integrate fighting moves into Gold's kabuki dance, or the actor just hasn't got the hang of it.
I think the way he's forced to keep one arm out and use the other to hold the "trigger" back like a cocked crossbow basically means his arms are rigid throughout the routine, which is why it looks a bit awkward. Might have been better if he'd just folded the wing-piece out, waved it around like a fan, and then pulled it back and fired it. But I'd been hoping we'd get a "full routine" of all six. Fun though it is when they play with using combat moves instead of the normal dance, my favourite morph sequence up to now was the one in episode four where they did closeups on everyone as their battery name got called out, did the full roll call afterwards etc :anime:
3. Surprisingly, the six-man opening is much more fun.
Like most Sentai openings tend to do when a sixth gets added, the additions mean most of the images no longer match up perfectly with the musical cues. I really wish they'd re-edit the whole thing from scratch to match it rather than leaving it slightly off for the rest of the year. I know, I know, stupidest nitpick ever!
4. King grabbed the sword without being sure whether it was real or not?
A blunt plastic sword would still sting if you got hit over the head with it. Besides, would anyone just let them get slashed with it without knowing for sure?
5. Very active mech fights and suit fights. Plus, great mix of CGI and suits.
Yeah it worked pretty well. I do wish they'd figured something a little better out with the Gabutyra tail rather than just leaving it hanging off the back, but hey that's modern Sentai mechs. It was a cool scene though.
6. So, no more Souji-Amy shipping, I guess? And WTF, was that Daigo in a seifuku?
Anything Shunpei can do...

Usually the final mecha debuted at episode 32+, so what now after this? aside from PteraidenOh Western....

And Kyoryuzin Kung Fu

Also, did anyone else think that this episode was practically an advertisement for the Mini-Album that was released a while ago. They played almost all of the songs (Minus KYORYUZIN) full blast during fight scenes. Basically, the Kamen Rider Method of selling album.

Speaking of blast, this episode was just full on Sakamoto (ABSOLUTE TERRITORY), and that made me really happy. If someone else did the action directing for this show, it probably wouldn't be as fun. I especially LOVE the climatic battle with all six members. It truly showed off all of team's potential perfectly.

10/10

Oh yeah, did anyone else spot Toei being cheap with the Samurai Zorimas?

This was a surprisingly good episode. :anime:

--Amy, the negative life coach. Is there nothing this spontaneous, spunky girl can't do?
--OUCH! I use to be a Kyoryuger, until I took a katana to the palm. :disappoin
--See? This is why you never take food from your rivals. Daigo, I'm surprised you actually fell for a trick that old.
--You know, seeing Dogold, the MOTW, and those samurai children waiting around in a building like that; it makes me feel like these are the kind of villians you'd expect to see on Shinkenger. Guess we're all feeling a Shinkenger vibe this time. :coolshades:
--LOL! Oh King, only you would use your gun that way. :anime:
--See how much talking things out can accomplish? Now if only other tokusatsu heroes could do that, especially a number of Kamen Riders...
--I like how that beam of light made it look like King had Gabutyra by a leash. We should DEFINITELY see more Sentai heroes taming their giant mechas with leashes. Make it happen, Toei! :169:
--Oh lord, YES! These are the moments that show why I love Super Sentai a little more than Kamen Rider. They're like Superman where Kamen Rider is like Batman. They fight in the daylight, becoming the source of hope, justice, and so fourth. From the roll call to the fighting while the theme song plays, it's amazing! And we're only 12 episodes in~!

--I liked EVERYTHING about that Raiden Kyoryuzin sequence. I didn't even care how CGI heavy it was this time!

--HA! Cockblocked by Utchy. Man, this episode is REALLY delivering the laughs!
--Children dancing? I know there was a contest for this, but did anyone here really want to see this during the ED credits? :eyebrow:

Oh yeah, really need to read the rumors more often, I guess.

Now, what direction are they going to take after this? Raiden Kyoryujin seems like a final mecha that got fastest to the series. Usually the final mecha debuted at episode 32+, so what now after this? aside from PteraidenOh Western....
Haven't you noticed the big black clips on Kyoryujin's chest? Something's got to attach to it at some point.
Oh yeah, did anyone else spot Toei being cheap with the Samurai Zorimas?
What about it was them being cheap? The MotW recreates a warring states period village, and the kidnapped children and the Zorimas all dress appropriately. Granted, the flashbacks to Utchy's past showed that they didn't really wear any extra armour back then, but it's all part of the theatre of it :anime:
--LOL! Oh King, only you would use your gun that way. :anime:
Though having said that, he immediately takes it off and yet doesn't suffer from the drug that should still be in his system. Didn't spot that plothole until now
--Children dancing? I know there was a contest for this, but did anyone here really want to see this during the ED credits? :eyebrow:
I though it was kinda sweet. That was what the contest was for after all.

This series just gets better and better. That was the single best pose down and fight in a sentai series in years.
