Zack Snyder, though. :170: I liked 300 just fine (though I've never read the book, so I can't compare), but after seeing what he did to Watchmen, Snyder just seems like a moron who's obsessed with slow motion blood spatter.

Also, look up his "worst case scenario" for Alan Moore's thoughts on the Watchmen movie. The size of his ego will leave no room for your respect for him

In the interest of being adult about this thing....why? I love Alan Moore's work, but...gah. His comments about comics...I'm sorry, but I still enjoy superhero books Alan, and you're not that talented. No one is.

It's not an overall comment on his work or his interviews, as Moore can certainly veer into arrogance himself sometimes. But in this case, I have to respect the takedown of a comment as utterly buffoonish and Snyder's was there.

I mean seriously, what the hell? Anyone who's spent more than two hours in comic fandom knows, Alan Moore doesn't like movie adaptations of his work. Why would he have a DVD of it? Why would he want a DVD of it? Why would he ever watch the DVD on a rainy or any other Sunday?

It seems to me that even if he wanted to express confidence in his product, Snyder would at least acknowledge a worse case scenario being 'Moore never sees it and doesn't care.' Maybe he's being taken out of context, but it really does come off as extremely self-centered, as quoted.

Alan Moore has no issue with superheroes he loves them, his issues are with the mainstream publishers and Hollywood. To be fair I do have some concerns with how he seems to cut off contact with other creators, chiefly his artists, but his attitude towards mainstream comic publishers doesn't bother me the slightest. Alan Moore for better or worse has a set of principles and lives by them. He has been been screwed over quite a few times. The thing is Alan Moore's name invokes such awe and passion in fans, it has become overused. He does good work the problem is that he has become this mythical standard, that people just throw about now without even trying to understand anything. He doesn't want that, he doesn't like that a book he wrote over 20 years on a "bad day" is still considered the high point of the genre.

I thought hopeful. I mean, it's obviously gotta suck to have the job of adapting material you love, only to have the creator go, "I'm NEVER going to watch that." So I think he's just being hopeful that one day, maybe, Alan Moore MIGHT see it.

He should have known going in from day 1 that Moore wasn't going to watch it, though. I You can't go into something like that and then act butthurt when your effort didn't change someone's entire outlook on art and media. Sure, it would be nice if it happened, but to expect it to happen is pure arrogance.

I'd agree if he said one day Moore might watch it and think it was good, or even GREAT. But he just hoped Moore would watch and go, "Yeah...that doesn't completely suck."

Lost cause, sure. Arrogance? Depends on perspective?

Yeah, but remember, this is his 'worst case scenario'. His worst case scenario. I will allow that maybe Snyder just doesn't actually understand what 'worst case scenario' means (the way that some people casually misuse 'literal' and 'could care less'), but unless he posted a clarification, I can only go by the words he actually said.

But I guess it does depend on perspective. To me, the suggestion that Moore would be interested in watching it even to see if it sucks or not (again, as a worst case scenario) is kind of arrogant. But then, I'm not the kind of person to waste time watching something that doesn't interest me when I could be doing something I like better.

Moreover, if it were an adaptation of one of my old works that had a lot of old, awful memories attached... I just don't know why anyone would think I would want to see that. I would be pretty annoyed by the suggestion that I should care about it just because it exists.

Maybe if Snyder had said "Moore happens to catch it playing on some TVs in a Best Buy while he's shopping'" I could see it... it's the implication of agency and active interest that bugs me.
