Efron would want too much money and be less willing to commit to so many films upfront. An unknown on the other hand will. Considering the low-balling budget, I'd be surprised if this actor's paycheck wasn't $1 million tops.

Not to mention, his schedule is already booked and the reboot starts filming later this year. It's obviously bullshit.

He's already been in every teen magazine cover, tons of girls have his poster on their walls. Of course, performance-wise, he may be able to pull it off, but his persona will play against it, the girls will not come and forget who that is and see Peter Parker, which is why Tobey worked, because he wasn´t a teen hearthrob. That applies to Zac as it applies to the Twilight guy or any other current hot teen star.

The two sources I've heard this from are a British Tabloid and OK Magazine. I don't buy it. The point of making a new Spider-man is to make it lower budget - paying an actor $15 million doesn't really fit that.

Plus, Disney doesn't own the Spider-man rights, so there's no basis to the conspiracy theory there.

was it all just to have a lower budget? I thought it was because they were cry babies who want to reboot everything just to "have another shot at it"

Finally a website that makes sense:

Zac Efron: High School Musical Star is not the Spiderman, British Magazine lied to you

I was amazed and was also shocked when I came to know from a website that Zac Efron is set to play Peter Parker in Spider-Man reboot series.

But today I discovered that Columbia hasn’t inked a deal with him and more importantly with no one. According to our sources the newly appointed director Marc Webb is busy deciding the cast and is having lot of trouble getting a lead actor for Parker’s role that will take the fans back to his roots.

The website that informed us about Efron taking up the role got the news from British OK! Magazine and today I am delighted to tell you that there reports are just rumors or I would rather say that they lied to you and all the other Spidy fans. The studio is still left to decide the cast and Efron according to our sources is not all a part of Columbia’s plan. It is being suggested by the British Magazine that Tobey Maguire suggested Efron’s name to Universal!

But my question is when did Spiderman become a property of Universal Pictures?? The studio that represents Spiderman is Laura Ziskins Productions and Marvel Entertainment and is controlled by Columbia Pictures, then from where did Universal came in???? This proves that the magazine is just lying and trying to sensationalize the whole thing. It was also reported that Efron’s girlfriend and High School Musical Star Vanessa Hudgens is set to replace Kirsten Dunst for the role of Mary Jane Watson. But again they don’t have a solid proof.

The 22-year old Efron may have a big fan following but for me he is not the right man to play the lead character in Spidy-reboot. I have said this thing before and I will say it again that “Zac Efron looks like Zac Efron even in a simple role and that’s his problem.â€

The studio needs someone who will have cold eyes like Al Pacino and that same innocence of Tobey Maguire to play this role and Zac Efron doesn’t fall in that category and for MJ, I think there a lots of young actress but I would love to see Evan Rachael Wood taking up the role. Hope thestudio comes out and eliminates all these rumors and announce their cast ASAP.
