It's the Catholics that believe in Purgatory. For Catholics after death you can go to heaven or hell or even Purgatory where your sins are purged... if they are not serious crimes against God.

Which it was. The History of the Bible series actually tells you who created the bible and why. The first bible was written after 300+ years after the so-called death of Jesus and was put together because the Roman emperor wanted one religion to unify his empire because there were multiple types of religions going around.

Well, not exactly. The gospels were written more around the time of Jesus. Well, Mark at least; as he got his information from the disciples and 'eye witnesses', and is debated to have been there himself at some of the events he wrote about.


The lilith thing, interesting. Never even heard of this story before. Well, I'd heard of it a couple months ago when a friend used it as a character's name in D&D (a succubus), but never realised it had such meaning.

And not as important as Mika's topic, but as fallen angels, demons would be super hot too. They'd be all beautiful and perfect....unless God beat them with an ugly stick as punishment for going against him. Which would be stupid.

I heard that too, but for the life of me I cannot find a reliable source online to affirm that. I'd appreciate any further info on the subject.

If demons are fallen angels who rejected God, WHY then would they torment the sinners who broke God's laws? Wouldn't the demons and fallen angels... the devils... welcome the sinners with open arms? Why would those in hell be punished by the devils, the demons, the fallen angels when all have rejected God? Why would they continue to do God's work by punishing the sinners?

Again, not be disrespect to religion or aiming at politics, I would like to say that the above feel as familiar as political statement by a ruling party during an election to the people against an opposition party - That if ya vote for them or choose them then ya will suffer and live in misery...

Anyway, I don't know if that quite fit though...

I think I've read that as well some where else but like you can't find any proof on that. Unfortunately, I will not have much time to participate in this thread after today due to work however, I do hope someone finds and posts the answer on that.

I don't want to offend, but I feel the need to correct when people say that there are gaps in the fossil record. This is nowhere even close to true. The fossil record is doccumented to incredible completeness. We can trace the rise of our primate ancestors from their earliest beginnings. The primate family tree is also very well put together, we can trace where humans ancestors split off from the early ancestors of the great apes, and follow the various successful and insuccessful branches of upright walking primates, from the extremely primitive to the very modern.

These days, our biological research and technology has gotten to the point where the fossil record is no longer even that necessary. We can peer backwards through the evolutionary process by looking at the millions of genes in our DNA. Some gene sequences are incredibly ancient and are tied to the very first vertebrate organisms. Others are a record of progressively more modern mutations in life on earth as we developed more advanced sight, hearing, and more sophisticated adaptations to various environments.

Human evolution is extremely well doccumented and has an incredible amount of verifiable support.

I'd be happy to. How far back do you want to go, and what would you define as a missing link? We certainly don't have mother-to-daughter dental records for the past fifteen million years. 'Course we don't have that for the last 300 years either.

I think a lot of the confusion about the evolutionary process comes from a number of misconceptions about how evolution works. Please check out this excellent precentation by the University of California at Berkley. It addresses in clear language many of the common problems people have with evolution, including the fossil record and supposed conflicts with various religions.
