World Cup 2006

2 days ago in Japanese class I just got informed by my Japanese teacher that Japan lost against Australia. Yet, she still wears the Japanese football shirt with pride.

Oh well!! Football sucks anyway!! I hate the World Cup, and I hope England lose against Germany!!

*RUNS OFF*

What he said!! :buttrock:

EDIT:

BTW, that clip that Blue linked to was funny. Probably explains how Japan lost to Australia too.

Australians couldn't give a Castlemaine XXXX for anything else!!! :P

(yeah, for some strange reason I had to type that in..).

Alas, I don't have cable as I really don't watch anything on it, nor can I afford it. :P Oh well, I'll just have to haul my ass up at that hour or stay up till then. If not, iMBC has reruns. Blah. I miss the GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL or TeleMundo or Univision.
Ah, I'm stuck watching it on Univision, it plays all the games live and I'm usually home when they're on. Don't most cities have Univision as a non cable channel? Mine doesn't because we'rw apparently in the south. Guess 2 AM still isn't that bad, at least it's not as bad as 2002, those were hell to get up for.

So...then why post?

Nah, American Samoa is the lowest ranked team in the world, they've only ever won a single game in about 30 years.

Yeah, 2002 was KILLER, but it was more fun cuz we'd go to other's houses and wake up entire apartment complexes at 4 am with our screaming! It was great. Oh yeah, the GUYS would cook breakfast for us cuz they rock. Lol. I remember the tone and mood of the day was set by whether our team won or not. LOL. And unfortunately Blue, I live in the Boonhickies of NY; I'm ALMOST sure they stop broadcasts after 1::crosses fingers hopes not::Anyways...I shall do my utmost to catch it live.

RSR, you're entitled to your opinions. No one's going to come after you with a rusty spork if you don't like Football, but you see, this is a thread about football for people who like it. Don't ruin it for others by trolling. Comment intelligently or please don't comment at all. Thanks. ~Mara

2002 was pretty fun, though it'd screw me over a lot because I had school almost every single day there was a game. Me and some of my friends would usually stay up for the final few rounds and then end up regretting it during the next school day. Good times.

1 PM or AM? Where I live we have like a "part time channel", I think it's one of those public access things, they show one game a day and then just go off the air. So I'm stuck with Univision, Spanish is my first language, so understanding it isn't my problem, the commentators just have some really weird accents. But I don't listen to them much, pay more attention to the game.

Well, despite me hating to "play" soccer... I kind of enjoyed watching it... 2002 was crazy year for me... cuz well... I was in Korea to visit my parents... and yeah... a lot of screaming going on and people watching the game intensely yelling that little "Offense Korea!" thing...

I didn't like all the yelling and people being pissed cuz Korea lost though... that's just me... people take too much pride in an unpredictable game where anybody can win... not just their own home country. Eh... Who can blame 'em? *shrug*

I did like watching Brazil win though, lol... :buttrock:

So much for a Korean without a Korean pride eh?

</end of nonsense here>

... Okay, this tangent interests me, as a language geek. Did you grow up in the US (that you get Univision suggests you're living here now)? If so, what Spanish accent did you grow up with? I'm under the impression that Univision is staffed by native Mexican Spanish speakers, but I could easily be wrong, and I'd love to be enlightened.

(And it's not like I can tell -- my knowledge of Spanish is mostly limited to being able to understand a little bit of it through a combination of French study and learning through direct exposure.)

Yeah, I grew up in the US, but Spanish was my first language. I didn't learn English until I was 8 or so. Univision's more of a Spanish channel than a Mexican channel, one of the commentators that they have is Colombian and his accents a tad bit hard for me to understand.

Back on topic, the final score for the US's game today was 1-1. Loved the playing on their side, Italy was just nasty today, especially that elbow to McBride's face. So I guess that the US can make it into round 2 with a win against Ghana. They just won't be able to make it first place, and I really like the squad this year, they've got some nice ball contol players, so I hope they're able to make it to round 2.

I've actually met McBride. He graduated from my HS, which is Buffalo Grove High School. We have one of his jerseys framed up above our trophy case. Really cool guy.

Yeah, I've heard he's a pretty easy going guy. Sucks to see how messed up he was for those few minutes, I haven't seen that much blood in a Football match in a long time.

Was not a fan of the ref today, didn't he get suspended from the last cup for a mistake? Masteroni earned himself a yellow card at best. The only calls I thought he was good on were the Pope one and de Rossi(you'd have to be blind to miss that one).
