Winny software developer found guilty, fined 1.5 million yen

It'll be interesting to see if this has any effect on Winny in the (near) future.

KYOTO -- Isamu Kaneko, the developer of the controversial file-sharing program Winny, was fined 1.5 million yen in a ruling at the Kyoto District Court on Wednesday, after being convicted of assisting copyright violations.

Oh dear!!

Could this mean goodbye to downloading kick-oshiri Tokusatsu shows in the future?

Probably not if we can still use MegaUpload and other stuffnjunk..

Winny is a Toku provider, MegaUpload is just like a Toku cubby.

guys read the buttom, Because of the way the software operates it is difficult to track the initial providers of files,so the chances of getting captured are a million to one.so you guy well get toku for years to come, ^_^hopfully

And for those who think that 1.5 million Yen is a lot... It's only around $13,000 US or 6,491.83£ or 9,658.30 Euro.

Not really. Napster's creator was fined around $26 million US (18,917,968 EUR; 12,717,875£; 2,938,061,800¥ [yup, that's billion]). $13,000 is pretty damn cheap.

Anything seems like less when compared to more. I doubt you or anybody else just has 13 grand lying around and that's certainly not pocket change even for an ex-researcher.
