Some of those reasons are just asinine. The above is what I refer to as weabooo subbing. That kind of subbing defeats the purpose of a REAL fansub. That being to allow people to understand a show in a language they don't speak. Leaving words untranslated defeats the entire point of a sub. I don't want to have to pause the video to look up a word that SHOULD be translated. People have been translating things for years. The Japanese language isn't some golden statue that can't be changed.

I don't agree with the elitist 'my sub is more pure than your sub!' nonsense, but I at least sympathize with those that are stuck waiting long periods of time to get a licensed copy, or won't get one at all. :C

I sympathize with those that won't get legit releases in their countries as well, but no one is entitled to anime. These people think they are OWED free anime. Also while I do feel bad for those that can't get releases in their region, I don't feel sorry AT ALL for people that simply whine because something doesn't come out "fast enough" for them.

I download my anime and I read my manga online. Why? Because it is better than the crap that comes out on the US dvds or books.

Hey what ever makes you happy :laugh: You see I am sure there are cases where fansubs are better, and there are LOTS of cases where they are not better. But you making generalizations just to justify getting free ****...Hah.

What cracks me up are the people that were "THEY HAVE NO RIGHT TO SUE" Of course they do. They own the rights to it. I swear some people around the different fandoms are just morons. It's like the people screaming bloody murder when that manga site got taken down.

No mistake, American companies have done their share of fucking up releases. However, I loathe the attitude that people have a right to take the inferiority of an American release as a given as an excuse to avoid spending money. And let's be straight, wanting to avoid spending money is basically what people are talking about here. ("Seriously considered buying a series from Japan" my ass, Otaku1)

Also, how many fansubs actually do the "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" translators notes anymore? Most fansubs I see nowadays seem to take the more professional attitude towards it. Though I guess it could still be happening on the high-profile fanboy series like Naruto... (does that stuff still get fansubbed? Didn't it get C&Ded? I'm so behind on this stuff.)

Shippuden's currently running on crunchyroll; As such, Dattebayo (a fansub group) put a public statement up saying they refused to fansub it.

I agree.

I only grab anime/manga that isn't licensed in America. When it does get snagged, I'll support it and grab it legit.

I think the only reason that holds LITTLE (and by little, I mean a fart's worth) ground is the Americanizations of certain cultural references, but that's only a real culprit in dubs. Hence, why I say little. Even professional subs keep a Japanese joke intact, even if the pun is lost in English. I know my Ranma 1/2 dvds did that.

And as far as I know, all the manga I've purchased kept cultural refs and things that really can't be translated directly intact. Rappi Rangai leaves a nice little section at the back of the book for explaining these and examples of such are an explanation of a Buddhist prayer and puns aimed at obscure characters from novels.
