I honestly think the whole HAG thing is a big red herring. Capcom has done this so many times before — remember the Resident Evil 6 trailer where everyone thought we were finally getting “evil Ada,” but it just turned out to be Carla Radames? Or back in Resident Evil 5 when the marketing tried to make us believe Jill was dead, only for her to show up later under mind control? Capcom loves to stir the pot but they rarely go through with actually killing or permanently ruining a fan-favorite character. They tease, they mislead, and then they pull back.

That is why I cannot take the Alyssa theory too seriously. They showed her being murdered, then people started saying she is the monster. To me, that looks like classic misdirection. Capcom is careful with legacy characters because they know the fanbase is passionate and also critical when it comes to “wasting” someone from the older games. Even Lisa Trevor, who was originally believed to be returning, was confirmed to be fake audio.

So yes, the HAG looks scary and mysterious, but I think she will be brand-new. Maybe they will drop hints that she could be Alyssa, Rita, or Cindy, but in the end, Capcom will reveal she is an original creature tied to Grace’s story. They like to play safe with the characters we already know.

I think the Alyssa theory makes the most sense because of the emotional connection with Grace. Resident Evil has always been strongest when it ties horror to personal tragedy. Seeing a daughter face her mother, who has been transformed into something monstrous, would be heartbreaking and horrifying at the same time. The Saturn painting comparison really adds weight to the symbolism. Capcom often layers mythology into its storytelling, so it feels intentional. While some might dismiss it as coincidence, I believe they want players to feel that mix of fear and sorrow. If Alyssa is the monster, it would elevate Grace’s story far beyond a simple “new protagonist vs. monster” setup.

For me, Lisa Trevor being ruled out is a relief. She had been through enough and her story felt complete in the earlier games. Bringing her back again would feel repetitive. I like the idea that Capcom is moving forward with new concepts rather than recycling too much. The mention that her demo sounds were placeholders proves they wanted to mislead fans. That shows they still understand how to build mystery. I prefer when Resident Evil uses nostalgia carefully, not just to please old fan

I am not convinced big mama has to be someone we already know. Capcom tricked us many times before, and I think this is the same situation. Fans want answers, but sometimes the truth is less complicated. A brand-new character allows more creative freedom without being restricted by past lore. Grace is already connected to Alyssa, so if her mother comes back in monster form, it might feel predictable.

The Rita Phillips theory surprised me. I almost forgot about her since she disappeared when Outbreak was cancelled. If Capcom revived her as the big mama, it would be a clever way to tie together unfinished threads from the old games. It would also please long-time players who felt Outbreak characters were ignored. The idea that her fate remained unresolved makes it possible. Personally, I do not think this will happen, but I would be happy if they acknowledged her again.

The detail about Alyssa being shown as a loving mother struck me. In Outbreak she was sharp and sometimes rude, but here she is softer with Grace. That change makes her possible transformation into the monster even sadder. Imagine a daughter remembering her mother’s love, then later having to fight her in a twisted form. It would not only frighten players but also hit emotionally. Resident Evil often mixes horror with family tragedy, and this would be one of the most painful examples.

I really think the monster’s identity is meant to mislead players. Capcom has a long history of teasing connections to past characters just to get people talking. Like in Resident Evil 5, the marketing suggested Jill had died, but she was alive the whole time. Or in Resident Evil 6, they hinted at evil Ada, and it turned out to be someone else entirely. This pattern makes me think the blonde creature is not Alyssa, Rita, or Cindy. It could be someone completely new, and the clues about resemblance are just distractions.

To me, the hints about Alyssa feel like a classic trap. Showing her interactions with Grace, then implying she might become the monster, seems designed to provoke an emotional reaction. Capcom is cautious with older characters, especially legacy ones, because fans can react strongly if they ruin them. I suspect they will tease Alyssa’s involvement but ultimately reveal the creature as a new enemy unrelated to her. It fits with their pattern of careful misdirection in trailers.
