White Knight Chronichles US Release date

Dark Kabuto

In Justice, We Trust!
Looks like it's coming out February 2nd. Definitely pre ordering! It says International, so I'm guessing there's a Japanese language option.

Not necessarily. They're calling it International Edition because they added a lot more to it than the Japanese release. Per Tsubasa Inaba in a response to a question on the PSBlog

"Multi-language support, yes.
English, French and Spanish.
(voice over is English only)

We tried to include the Japanese but unfortunately couldn’t make it happen. So sorry… :-("

Here's the listed changes from the Japanese version to the Internation version.

"The International Edition not only includes the fully localized copy of White Knight Chronicles, but it also comes with the following additional features and content:

* Over 50 disc-based online quests. You can complete these quests solo, or cooperatively with up to three other players to gain extra gear and experience. (That’s just on the disc. Wait until you hear what else we’ll have at launch!)
* Voice Chat. Need we say more? =)
* The Georama. Build an online village for your character where you can invite friends to complete quests online and purchase unique items and gear.
* Live Talk. Leonard and his companions will have side conversations during gameplay, adding a little more character to your travels through the world of White Knight Chronicles."

Not having a Japanese audio track isn't that much of a loss, nor is it unexpected if you look at Level 5's track record, they've never done it before, and it's never hurt them. It's something that is a nice addition, but hardly anything that will make or break a game. Outside of a few companies however, the option is anything but standard.

I'm sure the same traditional group of people will raise a fuss about it online, and boycott the game, of these people maybe 40% will actually own a PS3 to begin with. I've played the import, and I think the new additions to the international release are more than enough to justify the purchase without the addition of an optional audio track. SCEA Santa Monica producer Tsubasa Inaba stated himself that they tried to include it, that could mean anything from licensing issues to storage issues. It could very well come as optional free DLC once whatever issues are sorted out.

This game was the whole reason why I bought a PS3, so I still feel inclined to play it at some point.

Do you know if any pre-order goodies are gonna come packed with it?

Yeah all those great games with WONDERFUL dubs prove you right. :redface2: There is zero reason to not have the Japanese audio track on this super wondeful media known as bluray :anime:

Actually... I listed two possible reasons, both of which were included in your quote. Licensing issues and Space restraints. It could very well be that adding in another AC-3/DTS/PCM audio track would make the difference between a 25gig BD disc, and a 50 gig BD disc.

As for the rest. I haven't had any issues with any Level 5 games localization dubbing so far. Apparently you have, nothing wrong with that, it's all personal preference. As such you probably won't like the dubbing in this game either.

I'm sure SCEA and L5 will suffer greatly from the copies that people won't be purchasing due to this, but will somehow manage to move on after realizing that while it is an eastern developed game, it is now catering to a western market, and they will sell more games by having an English audio track, than a Japanese audio track, should they have had to pick one.
