How many of us here grew up with this story?

Only tonight did I find out they've been trying to make a live action movie of this sucker. It's suffered from various problems.

Test screenings had children crying and scared of the 'things'.

But there are also good reviews of the script early on.

To be honest, the idea of Hollywood making a movie based on this simple childrens tale is frightening. And yet, seeing the videos and the monsters makes me extremely excited. I dont care who you are, if you grew up with this story then seeing these monsters are the coolest damn thing in the world. I cant imagine a single person who wouldnt get a little giddy over these screen shots. The pictures look incredible

I loved the book. First read it as a child.

That said, I saw the test footage just a year ago, and I am absolutely impressed! They used suitmation, rather than take the easy way out and do CGI.

I always thought that Jim Henson should do a live-action film adaptation. From what I've seen, I think Spike Jonze will really capture that Henson-esque flavor I always envisioned! He'll do it justice.

That book is soooo close to my heart. I must have read it hundreds of times when I was little, and more than a few times as an adult. I'm very much looking forward to the movie. :thumbs:

Well, at least the monsters look true to the book. That's something to be hopeful about.
