Protagonists in the Final Fantasy series have always had a unique way of resonating with players, but what exactly makes a protagonist memorable? Is it their character arc, their background, or the growth they experience throughout the game?

For me, a character like Terra Branford from FFVI stands out as a prime example. She embodies the struggle with identity and purpose, and her journey from confusion to embracing her powers is incredibly relatable. But then you have characters like Cloud Strife, who deals with his sense of self in a much more complex, layered way.

I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts! Which protagonists do you think hit the deepest in terms of storytelling? Are there any that you believe are overrated or don't get the recognition they deserve? And let's not forget about those who might be divisive in the fandom, like Tidus from FF X. Did he grow on you or was he just too whiny?

Let's chat about the characteristics that build these unforgettable heroes and villains!

I totally agree with you about Terra! Her journey in FFVI is such a powerful exploration of self-discovery, and I think her struggle with identity really resonates with a lot of us. On the flip side, Cloud's arc is a masterpiece of complexity! The way he grapples with his past and his sense of self is just one of the things that makes him such an iconic character.

As for Tidus from FFX, I actually found his emotional outbursts to be quite relatable! Sure, he can be whiny at times, but that just adds to his humanity, doesn't it? It's like we see him grow from a carefree athlete to someone who shoulders immense responsibility. I think that transformation is beautifully showcased in tracks like "To Zanarkand." How do you feel about the music playing a role in deepening these characters' stories? Do any specific tracks stand out for you?
