What is wrong with "Fillers"?

From what I heard, a filler is a useless episode. MMPR has a hella lot of them. Same with some of the past series. Now, People bitch about them, Why are they hating them now?

Because seasons now are shorter, and they only have one season to do everything. Besides, when a show is full of fillers, people generally tend to stop caring because nothing is happening that matters.

In short seasons, fillers suck because there's less time to get to know the characters and have major story arcs play out. In long seasons...they just suck, though there can be good fillers.

Took the words out of my mouth, but yeah. That's basically it.

Fillers can be treated as OVAs, Omake, or Side Stories...as irrelevant to the storyline as it is...they're still fun to watch...*sometimes*

Very true, an anime for example, Fullmetal Alchemist, episode 37, it has nothing to do with the story really, but it's just a great and funny episode. One of my favorite fillers of all time.

Even had a custom title in that episode as well. Riza doing narration instead of Al.

Another advantage of "Fillers" is Single Character Backstories (especially for the more mysterious members of the group).

I think that people at some boards (e.g. JH and RB) whine far too much about 'filler' eps. As long as an ep develops characters, the world or is just plain fun, I don't care whether the overall story is advanced or referenced.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with fillers in moderation. When your entire SEASON is made of filler eps (I'm looking at YOU, SPD), then there's a problem.

We could say the same about Dekaranger...but at least some fillers were split into parts.
