What are your issues with Gaim?

TV-Nihon's subs said he was. Even then, why did he not take over Earth the first time he came?

Kachidoki Gaim was stronger than a Genesis Driver though. He was same-leveled with Zangetsu Shin (even though Takatora managed to do something against him), but that's only because Takatora was OP as hell. Ryouma wasn't strong at all. He could easily lose against Kachidoki even if he has an upgraded Driver, especially if Kouta would manage to avoid Ryouma's attacks. Remember that Ryouma is not a skillful soldier, so his attacks are pretty generic, even if they are stronger than anyone else's. I doubt Kachidoki could beat an Overlord, though. So Kouta would really need to get Kiwami.

That's why I'm confused why Urobuchi decided to write off Baron Lemon Energy. As unexpected as it was, it presented an opportunity to make Kaito an equal at least regarding Kachidoki. That would at least leave enough room for Overlord Baron vs Kiwami alone in order to have the Overlord battle as it is.

Because Sagara doesn't seek conquest. He wants to evolve organisms to more sophisticated forms, which he supposedly did with humanity before by turning hominids into humans and what gave rise to the stories of the Fruit of Knowledge/Golden Apples.

Hate to be the person to bring the subs in, but I think we found our problem.

Also, it's probably because bringing in the full scale Helheim invasion would've killed off everyone the first time he came. Did you not take basic environmental science in high school? If no organisms have the characteristics to even survive in the first place, then humanity's not going to evolve. Kaito basically only evolved because of his Genesis Driver helping him get used to the Helheim venom. Naked humans with nothing won't be able to fend off something as big as Helheim. This time, humanity has more technology such as Sengoku Drivers and Lock Seeds to fend off for a while and gradually evolve. Even with that, Sagara gave them 10 years to advance even further, more time than they have after the actions of the Overlords.

Sagara's actions pretty clearly show that he doesn't want to just take over a planet without finding somebody to power up, at the very least. He might not actually care about people's lives and all, but no way he would just "take over" a world without making sure there could be someone capable of handling the Golden Fruit's power first.

Well, if you look at the Overlord arc, Baron never had any individual victories outside of the movie tie in episode. I don't think getting stuck with Banana, Mango and Watermelon would have changed things.
There's this picture montage showing how even before the Overlord arc, Kaito gets trashed by basically everyobdy, so I can see what you mean. But I think getting another upgrade was pretty appropriate given his need for power, even if that Genesis Driver was just handed to him because Yoko thought it was a good idea instead of something he actually asked for.

Kaito's weakness is what pushes him to becoming an Overlord though. If he had a Kachidoki level upgrade, he wouldn't be in a desperate situation against Ryoma (in fact, thinking about it, they forgot about his Watermelon there).

I think Zack was the last guy to hold that Watermelon seed.

Ignoring how you just insulted my intelligence with the sentence in bold, that only brings up another question: Why spare Earth? Clearly other dimensions were not able to fend off Helheim either, what makes Earth so different? Hell, why even force evolution on others anyway? There isn't even a "because I can" style statement. This is not even a nitpick, this is basic character motives. This series spends so much time on being "dark" and "the sad" yet when it comes to something that simple it is just "whoops!" *facepalm*

And unlike most people here I thought the series got better from 31 onward, stuff actually got done once Kikaider was brought in.

Never saw it actually, plus after seeing some pics at the Metal Heroes database it looks very monster of the week-ish.

He hasn't "spared" earth. The invasion was already going on before Redue and Demushu started attacking, just more slowly. He was just waiting for someone who might claim the golden fruit. Which is most likely the same thing he did with other dimensions. Helheim's world used to be a different place, and it got invaded while Rosyuo got the fruit, so the invasion must have gotten held off at least long enough for someone to become powerful enough to earn it.

And he's a fricking sentient forest, just with an "avatar". "Basic character motives" don't really apply the way you're suggesting. Like, I'm pretty sure Gransphere in Ultraman Dyna never had an actual reason to want to consume the Solar System that was any more convincing than "I want to" or "this is what I do". And I don't recall Gatanozoa from Tiga telling us why he needs to destroy humanity and all.

Gatanazoa and Gransphere have the excuse of being generally evil/not able to communicate with humans, the Helheim avatar not so much.
