What are the Best Classic Horror Films for Newbies?

I've been trying to expand my horror film repertoire beyond just the recent blockbusters, and I'm curious about the classics. I've seen a few like "Psycho" and "The Shining," but I'm looking for recommendations that might be more accessible for someone who's not deeply entrenched in the genre. What classic horror films do you think are must-sees for newcomers?

For a newbie, I'd definitely recommend checking out "Night of the Living Dead", it's a foundational piece that nails atmosphere and tension without relying on modern jump scares. On the other hand, while "The Exorcist" is classic and has some incredible moments, I always found parts of it a bit uneven in pacing, which might be tough for someone new to horror.
