Warner Bros. Giving Up On R-Rated Superhero Movies?

thats sort of a nasty thing to say I think batman would have done the same if he had not died too!

It generated a huge amount of hype when Ledger died. We will never know for sure if it would have done as good as it did if Ledger didn't die but its safe to say it wouldn't haven gotten close to beating Titanic.

What are you talking abut Watchmen was great! Did you read the comic? It was really faithful to it.

Some say it was faithful (which was Snyder's intentions), others say it came off as a fanboy that didn't want to change anything at all and hammered in the dialogue and blocking. But anyway I think he was referring to how it did in the box office, it didn't even break the $100 Million.

But it wasn't a superhero film.

Comic book movie though

From everything I have read and seen on the net, tv, magazines, etc... The watchmen comic fans either hate the movie or they are extremely disappointed in it. There will be no watchmen sequel. Did you pull that out of your butt or something?

You're seeing one side of the picture. The fans are divided in five ways, 1. they love the movie just because of the Watchmen movie 2. They are willing to forgive its faults, it was pretty good but could have been so much better and so much worst 3. They rate it as a movie and not a comic book movie and rip and tear all of its faults. 4. They hate it because of the marketing it will get, you know how the 14 year old Hot Topic kids will make crappy Rorschach masks and use it to fuel their love for My Chemical Romance or the fangirls that will make smut fics about Watchmen characters having gay orgies while watching Inuyasha. 5. They hate it because they changed the ending.

I can kinda see why the movie didn't do so hot in terms of reception and the box office, most of the casual movie goers, the younger crowd, and critics that didn't read the comic saw the movie and came out confused.

Of course there's a sequel planned all the actors are contracted for a follow up. I love Jackie Earle Haley's statement about his contract "I refuse to do it unless its a musical". The question is if Fox (who won control of sequels and future projects during the court case) will go through with it.

Lol, you are awesome.

I'll just be glad if it doesn't become this all encompassing style-guide to absolute anti-joy for superhero stories in film that it did for superhero comics.

Out of the crop this past year I enjoyed Iron Man the most. It had a pretty good balance of "serious" with heroics and fun.

Exactly. This is what comic book movies should be. I appreciate the seriousness of TDK and all, but comics aren't all drama and death and gloominess all the time (not even Batman). There is always some light heartedness there...just look at BB. They managed to create a decent level between the two in Nolan's first bat-film.

I felt TDK went a step too far into a certain direction, and although it's still a spectacular film, I simply had more fun watching Iron Man.
