Nintendo has decided to be a sweetheart and give the people what they’ve been demanding this Valentine’s Day. Wario Land 4 will be added to the Game Boy Advance section of Nintendo Switch Online February 14. You would be forgiven for assuming this game was already there. Wario Land 4 was a staple of most GBA cart libraries back in the day, and out of the five Wario Land games, it’s the one Pizza Tower and Antonblast took the most inspiration from. But Nintendo has been as slow as humanly possible uploading this series: Wario Land 3 was part of the original Game Boy lineup when it launched several years ago. It took THIS long to get another Wario Land game. Maybe we’ll see Wario Land 2 or the original Wario Land before Switch 2 launches, maybe not. Previous Wario Land games used the gimmick of making Wario invincible, but having enemy attacks cause various side effects to him that either helped or hindered his progress. In Wario Land 4 the transformations are still there, but now Wario can get hurt again. Even worse: once he completes a level, he now has to escape it the way he came in […]

Wario Land 4 is a fantastic addition to the NSO library, and it’s great to see them bringing back more Game Boy Advance titles. People complain about the pace, but I’d rather see them get it right than rush things. This game still holds up beautifully, with its tight controls, creative levels, and that signature Wario personality. I hope this means we’ll get the rest of the series soon, but either way, I’m happy!

I don’t get why people are so hyped about this. Wario Land 4 looks cool, sure, but it’s an old game. Nintendo should focus on making a new Wario platformer instead of repackaging games from decades ago. If Pizza Tower could bring back that energy in a fresh way, why can’t Nintendo? I might check this out since I have the expansion pack, but I’d rather have something new.

Wario Land 4 coming to Switch is a big deal for the speedrunning community. This game has some of the most fun movement tech in any platformer, and the timer-based level exits make for intense runs. The GBA version has been optimized to death, but I wonder how the NSO emulation will hold up. If there’s input lag, that could be an issue, but casual players won’t notice. Either way, I’m excited to see more people discover what makes this game so good.

Oh cool, I never got around to playing this one! I had Wario Land 3 on my old Game Boy Color, but I skipped the GBA era. Everyone keeps saying this is one of the best platformers ever, so I’ll give it a shot. The transformations sound fun, and I like the idea of having to escape the level after completing it. I don’t have the expansion pack yet, but this might be the push I need.
