Have a particular favorite anime that came out within the last year? Now’s the time to show it some love. Crunchyroll has just opened the voting booths for their 2025 Anime Awards, which are fan-chosen. You can see the full list of nominees below, but before we get to that, we also know who will be attending the awards… Mike Wheeler is back and this time he’s brought his goofy friend in the hat. Finn Wolfhard will be attending his second Anime Awards, and now Gaten Matarazzo will be attending his first. They’ll be joined by a large lineup of talent from all over the world, from Japanese actors Dean Fujioka, Kanata Hongo and Maya Matsuoka, to English professional boxer Ben Whittaker, to Italian singer-songwriter Damiano David, to snowboarder Chloe Kim. Voice actress Sally Amaki and entertainer Jon Kabira will serve as hosts. Also President and CEO of Sony Group Corporation Hiroki Totoki will deliver opening remarks, because he owns the company. “The Crunchyroll Anime Awards are one of the most important times of year for fans because we hear directly from them on what anime they love and get to honor the creative community behind that love,” said Rahul […]

This year’s nominees are really diverse, and I appreciate the wide variety. Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia are predictable choices, but I’m all for it because they continue to deliver top-tier animation and action. But I have a soft spot for Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. It’s such a unique and emotionally deep anime, and I think it’s a bit underrated compared to the heavy hitters. Honestly, I’m hoping to see Kaiju No. 8 get some awards—it has a fresh take on the monster genre. Also, I love that there’s a category for Best Arabic and Brazilian Portuguese performances. It’s important to recognize all the voices that bring these anime to life across the world.

I love the way the Crunchyroll Anime Awards give a voice to fans. It’s great that voting is open and that the whole anime community can get involved. I noticed a lot of nominees are from very popular shows, like Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia, but I’m most excited for the underdogs. DAN DA DAN and Delicious in Dungeon are up for quite a few categories, and I hope they get the recognition they deserve. It’s refreshing to see newer anime like The Apothecary Diaries and Kaiju No. 8 in the mix as well. I’ve been following Solo Leveling for a while, so seeing it nominated for Best Anime and Best Action is very exciting. It’s going to be a tough race with so many strong contenders, but it’s definitely going to be an exciting night.

There’s a lot to unpack here, and I’m not going to lie, I’m a little disappointed with the nominees for Best New Series. It seems like Kaiju No. 8 and Solo Leveling are always in the spotlight, and while they’re good, I was hoping to see something more creative. Don’t get me wrong, those shows have great visuals and action, but it feels like we’re getting the same formula. I’m personally rooting for Delicious in Dungeon in every category it’s nominated in. It’s a perfect mix of quirky characters, humor, and a unique premise. It’s something fresh and different from the usual anime tropes. Let’s see if the more niche shows can stand up to the mainstream powerhouses.

I’m so excited for the Crunchyroll Anime Awards this year. As a big fan of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, I am thrilled to see it get so many nominations. The character development in that series is incredible, and it’s such a thought-provoking story. I think it deserves the win in Best Drama and Best Character Design. As for Demon Slayer, I do think it’s getting a little predictable, but there’s no denying that it has some of the best animation out there. The Hashira Training Arc was beautiful to watch. I’m also surprised to see SPY x FAMILY still going strong. It’s a lot of fun and deserves the Best Comedy nomination.
