Virtua Fighter 5 vs. Street Fighter IV (PS3)

Forever Knight

Eye See You
I'm in the mood for a good fighting game for my PS3.

Now, the last time I played a fighting game was Street Fighter II Turbo (SNES) and Virtua Fighter 2 (Saturn). So I am very behind on all of these newer fighting game incarnations from SF and VF.

Now I mastered VF2 back in the day, same goes for SFII. But what could I expect if I bought either of these games and playing them for the very first time?.

I'm sure it'll take alot of practice to get back into the swing of things. For those whom have played both games which do you think is better?.

I figured I was the only person on here who played Virtua Fighter, since most people tend to turn their face at it, because it's not a button masher like Soulcalibur.

However, I can't pick just one, because aside from them both being of the fighting genre, they're two completely different games. If you want to get a feel for Virtua Fighter 5 download the demo off of PSN.

It depends on what you want from a game, personally I'm more of a beast at VF than I am at SF (was at the EVO World 07 for VF5 after all).

For VF5 you will get a pretty similar experience you got from VF2. But as far as SFIV goes it will look friendly and approachable like SFII but once you play it you're just not going to get a similar experience that Super Turbo gave you. SFIV is filled with broken characters and such and has the intimidating unfriendly element that 3rd Strike had.

But for casuals VF5 probably won't last as long as SFIV will. You'll probably get more for your money out of SFIV. As far as online play right now pretty much only core players are on VF5 but on SFIV its a good blend of newbies, mediocre, beasts, etc.

I would recommend getting Soul Caliber 4 because I find its the best fighter of this generation. If you want to stay with something you are used to get Street Fighter 4 since you can probally just jump in and start playing if you liked it back in the day. It has very simmaler controls to the Street Fighter 2 Turbo game for Snes but to a modern controller layout. If your used to the arcade style of playing it there is a few arcade sticks that I have heard good things about that work very well and plug into you 360 (Im not sure about PS3 tho)

Enjoy.....

Similar controls don't necessarily mean similar gameplay. Look at Super Turbo compared to Third Strike, both have the same 6 button layout but play completely different. Like I said already SFIV looks friendly and approachable like SFII but once you play it, unless you're already pretty good at complex 2D fighters like 3rd Strike or Guilty Gear be prepared to flail and get tossed around like a scrub. Yeah the learning curve for IV is pretty much an uphill battle like 3rd Strike.

how the heck can u compare a 2-D to 3-D fighting game....SF4 all the way for 2-d and VF doesnt come close to Tekken period...:buttrock:

VF doesnt come close to Tekken period...:buttrock:

Because Tekken and Virtua Fighter are two different games there pal. Tekken is more combo tricks and strategy based while VF is more speed, timing, and straight up battlecraft (what counters what). That and VF tries to be more real than Tekken, and well Tekken has a story while VF is pretty much "Here are some Fighters".

Virtua Fighter has a storyline... kind of. Basically each character has some sort of lame backstory.

VF doesnt come close to Tekken period...:buttrock:

I'm sure you're only saying that because you suck at Virtua Fighter. Which is okay, because it takes time to learn the mechanics.
