VF5 gets another update, hopefully this one will hit consoles. Or at least we'll get 5R on the consoles.

In my opinion the Virtua Fighter games are some of the most balanced fighting games out there. I'm curious as to why games like Marvel vs Capcom 2 are popular in the west but hardly played in Japan while Virtua Fighter 5 is so popular in Japan and hardly anyone plays it in the west.

It's too complex for those in the west, there ideal fighting game is a button masher. Virtua Fighter definitely gets less credit than it deserves. It's always been overshadowed by Tekken and Soulcalibur. Virtua Fighter has always kept it simple, it focuses stricty on the fighting.

I think a console release is about a 50/50 chance. Even though sales were low for VF5, if the fans truly demand it, then it's likely to happen.

Overshadowed in popularity by Soul Cal is true but in terms of quality I've yet to see anyone in the west say any Soul Cal game after one is a polished fighting game.

Also I can't tell, is the character at the end of the trailer a new character or a costume edit?

I should have better specified. To the general gaming public Soulcalibur is ideal, because it's simple and requires no practice for the most part. A casual gamer is usually pretty quick to turn their nose at Virtua Fighter, because it requires actual skill and practice in order to be truly competitive.

That supposed new character could possibly just be an edited character. The third installment of Virtua Fighter 4 called "Final Tuned" featured no new characters, so it's possible that this installment won't either.
