I love the series as well as the first two books its based on (I heard the third novel was awful and I've yet to read the fourth). I started watchin Season 1 when Season 2 started airing and I've been hooked ever since. Season 1 was amazing just like the book, Season 2 and 3 were great and they didn't even bother to follow the books. Three also introduced an awesome character. And I must say Michael C. Hall is quite the devil, its kinda funny that he's dating his on screen sister.

[HIDE]I pretty much knew by how they were handling the writing of Rita that they were going to kill her. Everybody's been complaining about the character all season, and I've seen numerous people correctly assume that she'd be written off. While Rita's always sort of nagged Dexter, they took it to an intolerable level this season, the point of which was to make the viewer wish she'd be killed, and we would somehow feel guilty for thinking that when it happened. I think a better approach would have been to actually make her more sympathetic throughout the season.

And it also sucks that what they've spent two seasons building on -- Dexter's marriage to Rita and becoming a part of her family -- was thrown away for a cheap shock.[/HIDE]

I was all around disappointed by season four. So much of it felt padded. And I've always disliked John Lithgow, so his presence certainly didn't help. I know I'll probably be criticized for trashing the Amazing Wonderful Dexter, but I just was really letdown by this season, especially after how much I liked season three.

Rita was always basically just a plot device for Dexter; first she was just there as a cover to make him look human; gradually she became used more as just a nuissance for Dexter, making it difficult for him to satisfy his dark passenger; then he started to care for her, 'becoming human'. The whole time the audience was never really meant to like her.

Bit of a disapointment overall, but still on par with the previous seasons, great development. The final scene was poetic, but it was a little too predictable.

Good to see it accepting its place as a soap opera and giving more development to the supporting cast too. Next season with the focus on Dexter resolving this mess and Deborah finding out about him should be good.[/hide]
