Hi there! Long-time lurker, first time poster here.
I recently started up a toku blog and my first post was about common themes and tropes in Kamen Rider and Sentai. Pretty much the moment I finished it I realised I could have gone and added a ton more stuff, because just five things isn't even beginning to cover it. (Like right now, off the top of my head, I'm thinking about how much Inoue loves having dudes fall in rivers.)
But I thought it might be more interesting if I asked you guys about common tropes or themes or just general oddities you've noticed in toku (it doesn't just have to be Rider and Sentai!). So how about it? Are there any you really love? Or really hate?
Just to get the ball rolling, I love the fairly recent trend of how every new Kamen Rider series will have amazing CGI in the first two or three episodes and then for the rest of the series the special effects will just be plastic crap on a string because they've totally blown their budget. Toei's accountant fails at budgeting forever.
