Transformers: Heroes

RiD/Car Robots was cool. Especially God Fire Convoy/Omega Prime. But Armada was just...bleh....

Energon made the new series' kick ass again, but I kinda got tired of the whole thing by the time Cybertron came around and lost interest.

Hopefully this new show'll bring me back, but they should do somethin' more like Microman...like what Engergon was tryin' to do. Have henshin heroes fightin' side by side with the Autobots.

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. Transformers Head Masters, Transformers Master Force, Transformers Victory, Carrobots, Transformers Micron Densetsu, Transformers Super Link and Transformers Galaxy Force were all, in spirit, close to the original.

This maybe the old G1 series fan in me talking but I see little if any real closeness to the original series in most of the series you're talking about aside from Carrobots.

The Japanese series ESPECIALLY the last three are very heavily sentai-influenced right down to the mysterious warp field for the transformations and the poses. And Headmasters's ridiculous Headmaster finisher, whatever that is.

And the elevation of Optimus from reluctant hero to near deity status by the Japanese is very, VERY odd and not something I really consider true to the series. Optimus isn't the 'chosen one' to wield the matrix, Rodimus is. Yet the latter has simply disappeared and that title was handed over to Optimus even though he himself is vastly different from his original form. OG Prime would never have hit Ironhide (no matter how much Ironhide deserves to be scrapped).

I'd argue with that. It's never been clear back in G1 if Optimus was another chosen one, just like Rodimus. After all, when he returned, he took a trip in the Matrix and then opened pretty easilly.

Regardless, rumor has it that in 'Heroes', Optimus will be younger than usually, so no big, badass mentor/leader/Autobot god.

I dont know my own opinion? Hah. I havent seen most of the older TF animes and I wont be watching them. I like G1 S1 TF and I love Beast Wars. Nuff said. I've hated the anime incarnation of TF since seeing RiD and it hasn't gotten better. I don't want the new cartoon to be like G1 or Beast Wars, I just want it to be good.. and it doesnt have to be anime to be good so I prefer it stay away from anime related overtones.

Personally, I didn' thave a problem with that warp field. However, I wouldn't call it sentai-influenced. This 'warpfield' thing (basically a psychedelic background thingy, if you ask me) is pretty standard in a lot of Japanese super robot series (Gaigaigar for example comes to mind). I didn't get the impression that Japanese Transformers are so strongly influenced by sentai, rather influenced by super robot series of that time, most noticeably the Yuusha series (design, human-robot interaction, etc)

So you know for a fact that Transformers anime is bad, even without watching them?

Out of the last four series I think Galaxy Force/Cybertron was the best. I hated the Energon design >< but the Cybertron CGI worked awesomely well if you ask me.

Plus I'm a sucker for the Cyber Key Power bit XD the sudden burst of power and all feels very 'boiling blood' hehehe.

But yeah Beast Wars was a pinacle. Optimus Primal is one of the greatest Cybertronian Hero of all time!

Man, reading comprehension ftw? I just said I've seen the newer animes, RiD, Armada, Energon, Cybertron. I've seen enough to say "yeah, they suck". If you dont like that, then too bad. You're going to have to deal with the fact that people have different opinions than you and I dont have to sit through hundreds of episodes just to have an opinion

I don't have a problem with people having a different opinion than mine but I would expect people to at least found their opinion a little bit on something substantial. You didn't like the newer anime series and automatically assume that the older ones must be bad too. That's a biased opinion in my book. If I were to say: "I watched Abaranger and it sucked. All Super Sentai series must be bad!" that would equally be a flawed way of building an opinion.

People don't like a series that I like, fine, I can handle that. But I would at least expect their opinion to be based on something, otherwise it's just grabbed out of thin air and has very little to no value at all, nor is it a productive part in a discussion.

Ok, you're going to have to refresh my memory. Where in this thread, Alf, did I say the older animes were bad, specifically? I've never, ever said the older TF animes were terrible in this thread. Only you are jumping to this conclusion on my idle "thank god" remark. I simply said I wouldn't be watching them because I'm not interested.

I'd argue with that. It's never been clear back in G1 if Optimus was another chosen one, just like Rodimus. After all, when he returned, he took a trip in the Matrix and then opened pretty easilly.

The key thing is 'was' another chosen one. He was supposed to exit gracefully in the movie and then the new Prime would be ushered in. And the next prime was supposed to be the really important one as he opens the Matrix in their darkest hour and destroys Unicron. The hate plague nonsense I find very, very contrived.

More over, according to their tech specs, Rodimus IS better then Optimus, he has 9's to Optimus's 8's in the two categories where neither has a ten.

It just really bothers me that Hasbro started meddling in the show's writing and as a direct result the overall product suffered.

Regardless, rumor has it that in 'Heroes', Optimus will be younger than usually, so no big, badass mentor/leader/Autobot god.

That I'll believe when I see it. Not that they won't attempt it mind you but I get the impression they're trying to recapture Primal in essence and he still will be the big, badass leader type.

There's the warp field, the POSING at the end of the transformations, the somewhat odd power-ups and abilities they manifest (Energon Optimus) that just smack of Sentai.

And I wouldn't say they're not influenced by the Super Robot Series of the time but a lot of these things, just don't feel 'right' to me in Transformers.

I'm hopeful that Heroes will be closer to BW then the UT but I kind of doubt it.
