Dynamite’s crowdfunding campaign for the Thundercats Classic Years omnibus is winding down. The campaign has taken in over $120,000 so far, and you still have time to make a pledge before the end of the week. When Thundercats launched in syndication in 1985, the comic book was launched along with it, produced by Marvel through their new Star Comics imprint. Published bi-monthly for most of its life, the comic would reach 24 issues over three years, and then vanish — until now, when Dynamite Entertainment licensed the property from WB to produce new Thundercats comics….and revive the old ones. The Thundercats omnibus is being offered as one volume in hardcover, or two volumes in paperback. The paperbacks are a $40 pledge each, but the $100 hardcover will be printed at a larger size and use exclusive art (you can choose between the original 1985 art, or a homage drawn by Declan Shalvey). Versions of the hardcover signed by those involved with the original are also available: Brett Breeding, the inker of the classic line, autographed a $200 version of the hardcover and Larry Kinney signed a $350 version. There are also other items, like a facsimile edition of the first […]

Thundercats was a central part of my childhood, and the idea of having all those classic comics in one collection feels like a dream come true. I’m especially drawn to the hardcover with the 1985 art—it captures the nostalgia so perfectly. I didn’t even know about the Star Comics series when I was a kid, so this is a perfect chance to dive into that history. I think I’ll pledge for the signed edition too—it’s a bit steep, but owning something touched by Larry Kinney? Totally worth it.

This is cool and all, but $100 for a hardcover is a bit much, even if it’s larger and has exclusive art. I get that it’s a collector’s item, but I wish there were more affordable options for the casual fan. Still, I might go for one of the paperbacks. It’s nice they’re including the animation mini-print as a stretch goal. That adds a bit more value to the package. I’ll think about it.

I’ve been collecting comics for decades, and this omnibus is an absolute gem. The Star Comics run of Thundercats is a fascinating piece of comic book history, often overlooked because it wasn’t from the main Marvel line. Dynamite has been doing excellent work reviving vintage properties, and this campaign proves it. I already pledged for the $200 version. Brett Breeding’s work was iconic, and having his signature is a must for any serious collector.

The homage cover by Declan Shalvey sounds amazing. I’m a huge fan of modern reinterpretations of classic art. Even though I’m not a big Thundercats fan, I can appreciate the effort that went into creating something for both new and old audiences. If the new comics Dynamite is making are as good as this campaign looks, they’ve got my attention.

I love Thundercats, but I can’t justify spending $100 or more on a book, even if it’s hardcover and larger than life. I’m glad they’re offering the paperback versions at a lower price point. The facsimile edition of the first issue might be my best bet—it’s affordable and still a piece of history.

hundercats was a pioneer of transmedia storytelling, and the Star Comics run played a crucial role in expanding the universe. Dynamite’s efforts to preserve and reintroduce this material deserve recognition, not just from fans but from anyone interested in the evolution of pop culture.

I’ve supported Thundercats through every iteration—whether it was the original show, the 2011 reboot, or the more recent satirical take. Seeing the classic comics come back is just what we needed to remind everyone why this franchise matters. Dynamite nailed it, and I’m proud to be part of this campaign.
