So any YGO TCG players here? I just got back into the game last year right after the whole TeleDAD nonsense died off and Glads was still rolling strong.
Let me say this to start: This game is fucking broken. For years the game has been all about releasing some incredibly broken cards like Dark Armed Dragon or Blackwings, banning/restricting them, and then releasing something even more broken or just as broken. If its not TeleDAD its Dark World, if its not Dark World its Glads Beasts, if its not Glads Beasts its Lightsworn, if its not Lightsworn its Syncho Cat, you get the idea.
Don't get me wrong the game is still fun but its become incredibly easy to dominate with top tier decks. I mean in the next set there is new Ritual support that lets you Synchro from your hand. Christ all mighty.
Now for those that do play I usually roll Exodia (for fun) and Lightsabers (pretty damn broken but very few people play it and even less people play it incorrectly), but I do have Six Samurai and a Mill deck. Also I'm thinking about making an Assault Mode deck.
Also not to be mean or anything just saying this based on an observation: this game attracts a lot of people with autism. I've noticed a lot of the local players, tournament and SJ players, as well as the online players have said they have autism. Just stating it as an observation, the guy that won Nationals this year has autism. Although its not like it requires you to be a genius to rape at this game.
For those that have no clue what I'm talking about let me explain some stuff.
Synchro summon: Pretty much Contact fusion, all you need is a tuner monster and another monster and you can pull out a Synchro Monster without the use of any other card. You can get your beefy big bad monsters out by the second turn. This was introduced with 5D's.
Milling: Forcing cards to go from the deck to the graveyard. Winning by deck out.
TeleDAD: A deck formed around the use of Dark Armed Dragon, a Dragon that's fairly easy to get on the field with high attack and with its effect it can destroy any other card on the field. Originally just called DAD, a deck everyone and their mom rolled, but Dark Armed was restricted to one so with the use of E-Teleport the card could still be brought on the field quickly.
Lightsworn: A deck formed around Lightsworn monsters which are self milling monsters which are meant to dump your beefy monsters in the graveyard to get effects or special summon them quickly. Even if you lose to this deck you still have satisfaction over your opponent because they use Lightsworn. LS monsters are the rarest cards in the entire game, just for the core cards they could cost you up to $300 and about $700 for the entire deck. Unless you're some god of luck that can pull these no problem.
Glads Beast: A deck formed around Gladiator Beast monsters which all have the ability to "tag out" by switching the monster out sending them back to the deck for another GB monster. All of them get pretty good effects when they tag out. These decks either use the Fusion Gladitor Beast monsters which you just need to tag out to get on the field and they can destroy multiple cards just by being summoned or its a Synchro Glads deck focused on quick and easy Synchros.
Blackwings: A deck focused on Blackwings monsters which are all common, you could get a good version of this powerful deck for $40ish or pull all of the core cards with a couple of booster packs. The deck was mainly an aggro deck focused around using the special summon effects of Blackwings and getting a ton of them on the field at once and using their effects to empty your opponents field. But some of the staple cards were restricted so that format is dead. Now its Blackwings Vayu Turbo which is control style forcing your opponent into a cage pretty much.
Lightsabers: A new deck that utilizes X-Sabers and Lightsworn monsters, most people play this incorrectly with a format I call SaberSworn. Lightsabers is more X-Saber focused while SaberSworn is more Lightsworn focused to put it bluntly. Lightsabers is all about getting your synchros as fast as possible and using the X-Sabers to control your opponent. The X-Sabers have effects that make your opponent discard their hand. There's only a few Lightsworn monsters but they are there to provide defense to allow the weaker X-Saber monsters to use their effects and dumping X-Saber monsters. SaberSworn is pretty much just playing Lightsworn with X-Saber monsters, but that really doesn't work at all.
